I found this out awhile back. if you /salute the guards you will notice they stop and salute you, this also bugs them out and stops them from doing what they are doing currently. This includes killing your horde friends who are just hanging around Stormwind killing those annoying beggar lowbies.

This can also help get people through the front gates if you make a target macro and salute all the guards as you go in with your friends behind you. Im sure it has other uses.

This also works in Strath for the ghostly guards. You can salute them or /dance and they will dance with you. While they are doing this you can beat the hell out of them and they wont respond. After a moment they will resume the attack, just /wave or /dance to get them to stop attacking again. (only the human ghostly guards)
