Yeah it works i used this yesterday. Make sure your friend who you invited to the party stays online though!

Secondly make sure your lowbie is in combat with the boss, or i'm pretty sure it won't be on the loot table? Maybe i'm wrong Easy way to make sure is to log on to your lowbie on the other WoW client when the boss is on low hp so you can finish it off, like Jareth123 said.

It is a report, search for something about getting badges on 2 characters on the same account from same boss.
