Farm Don Carlos' Hat

So it's a new patch and everything, checking out the new additions to the game, then you see the new Don Carlos thing in Old Hillsbrad. Well, in heroic mode, Don Carlos drops a blue version of his hat (Don Carlos' Famous Hat - Item - World of Warcraft) but theres a problem. Since he is considered a boss, he saves you to the instance only allowing you 1 chance to get it per day.

But blizz made a mistake! If you kill him once, you get saved, well heres the exploit, just kill him, no other bosses. Run out of the instance, set the difficulty to normal, then back to heroic. Run back in and he should be there. repeat 5 times, and your whole group has the best hat ever!

I and my group found this out on our own, why should I give credit to someone else just because he found it also?

This does work, I've gotten 2/3 hats so far with my friends on my alts

This doesn't seem to work every time though. I've tried various ways of screwing with the instance but none of them brought him back to life.

One thing we found that was guaranteed to bring him back however was soft resetting the instance. For those that don't know a soft reset is when everyone leaves the instance and then stays out for 30 minutes.

We've done this about four times today and it's worked every time. It's a little more tedious than the instant resets but I recommend it for anyone who still wants to farm the hat and can't get the resets to work.

I haven't been in there yet to kill this guy, but I assume he does not drop a badge on heroic mode?

Well then if you're going to do that you might as well have a lock and do the summon exploit to farm this hat.

Well, i was thinking about this just now, and realised something.

I did it on heroic with me (resto druid with about 1.8k +heal) and a hunter friend with mainly t5/s2 gear. He chain ice blocked the dog while killing the NPC. Due to the NPC mainly attacking from ranged (hits for like 1-2k), he had no problem killing him alone pretty quickly.

So whats the point of all this? Well apart from the fact that you dont need a full group to kill him, his hat can be disenchanted. So theres potentially an unlimited supply of shards for yourself and a friend, limited only by the hourly instance reset limit. No trash, he's very close to the start of the instance, easy. 5 shards per hour, which equates to 100-150g on my server per hour. Not that much, but not bad for like 20 minutes work

edit: also we reset the instance 4 times despite it saying we were saved to the instance after we killed him, and he respawned every time

I farmed 5 of them for my shammy boxing team it looks great when they are all in ghost wolf form
