Incorrect, you can be banned for this. Standing on anything that causes the guards not to aggro in the old world is a bannable offense. This has been verified by blues in the past and a post has been made recently that clearly states the rules.

If flying mounts work stand on whatever you like, if you are in an area without flying mounts it's an actionable offense.

found a new one on the isle near the epic gem merchant, just out the door to her right there's a ledge which curls up, 3 Alliance Hunters were ganking all the horde looking for gems, no retaliation, geez
