This isn't useful because not all GameMasters will port you to a mailbox if you ask.

It's only useful if you have a REAL issue that a GameMaster needs to look into, and they're being nice.

It also has nothing to do with Hearthstones, more just like laziness and fooling a GameMaster.

99% of the time, the gamemaster will port you, they dont want to waste 30 minutes while you fly or go to a mailbox...

Again, wrong, 80% of the time GMs don't look into anything, they either write down a name or tell you info you need to know etc.

It does have something to do with Hearthstones, as if you need to turn in a bunch of Quests in Org or something else, then you can just have your Hearthstone set to Felwood, get teleported to Orgrimmar then do what you need to do then Hearth back.
