What happened to emulation development?

It seems that emulation hit a brick wall in 4.0.6 and has not continued since. Was there some sort of major event or reason for this?? I feel like I'm missing something.

My guess is that people aren't that interested in playing a pserver that is pretty much the same as retail, only with loads of bugs. Most people will just play retail instead, or vanilla/tbc/wotlk pserver.

2 things:

1 - When Blizzard made Cata they did a huge rework of how the game is run. So changing the emulators to match is a much larger task than it previously has.

2 - This could purely be my opinion, but I'd also say a lot of developers have now gotten comfy and settled with the WotLK/TBC/Vanilla clients and server. If I want a feature from Cata, I would rather try to re-make or impliment it for WotLK. Obviously it's a lot harder to do some things, but everything comes at a price, just as Cata servers come at the cost of large amounts of bugs and less known knowledge of emulation development.
