    Well, having trouble with vmapextract.....

I found a repack for a certain patch earlier (3.0.9..... I have my reasons for this version), and I finally got done with ad.exe.

The next thing I'm to do is use vmapextract_v3.exe. The first thing it did was try to find the files in my retail WoW's folder,
which is ridiculous because it was on a completely different hard drive than the folder my 3.0.9 version is in (retail WoW aka
Cataclysm is on my C: drive, I have the other / 3.0.9 on my second drive which is E: ).

So I copy the 3.0.9 folder to the folder retail is in (making sure it's named "World Of Warcraft", while the retail one is "WoW Retail", since it's worked for me
that way in the past), and it's again trying to find the files in the "WoW Retail" folder. I then decide it wants that folder entirely,
so I rename the real retail version to "WoW.Retail.Version.Cataclysm", and the 3.0.9 version to "WoW Retail".

It starts to work, probably goes for 5 seconds, and then it stops again. This time there's no error in finding a file, however the last thing in the box says
"world\wmo\northrend\wintergrasp\wg_siege01.wmo", and again getting the window that says "vmapextract_v3.exe has stopped working"
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is found."

Does anyone possibly know why this is happening? Are there any other repacks still around for 3.0.9? Is there a better core for 3.0.9 than Arcemu - if so as user-friendly as Arc, since I was able to figure out Pedregon's Repack for 2.4.3 (also was 2.4.3 just way more simple than 3.0.9 for that matter)?
Basically.... I want to create a server for the highest patch of the game prior to Ulduar being implemented.

Appreciate if anyone can help me out with this....

I second the latter half of that, but, damn that's harsh. Do you always cut people down like that? Maybe you should make a suggestion to the MMOWNED team for them to put a warning on this section directed toward newbies to protect them from useless insult posts. Perhaps something like [DON'T POST HERE UNLESS YOU KNOW EVERYTHING] would be fitting. To my knowledge, this section was opened for the purpose of asking questions and receiving educated answers.

Anyway... To the OP! Repacks suck and 99.9% of the time, the guides associated with installing them are "half assed". Learn to compile. You wont regret it.

    Pro Tip Number 1:

World of Warcraft is not installed on your computer. It is extracted. You can move the folder anywhere you see fit. Keep both revisions (retail and 309) together where they're easy to find. Just rename the folder of your 309 client (World of Warcraft WoTLK for example) before the move, paste it into the same directory as your retail folder, make a shortcut to the .exe (the icon that's named WoW), rename it and paste it to your desktop. That way your 309 client wont try to patch up when you click the icon, and your retail installation is not effected in turn.

    Pro Tip Number 2:

The vmap extractor DOES NOT KNOW where your WoW folder is by default. How do you fix this? Move the vmap extractor to your WoW folder and VOILÀ, it should work. ArcEmu includes a batch (makevmaps_SIMPLE.bat) that can be edited to point the extractor and the assembler to the directory where your WoW folder is. If the author of the repack didn't include it and explain how to use it in their guide, they fail at making repacks imo.

    Pro Tip Number 3:

When your WoW folder is in your C: directory, Windows 7 likes to block things from altering the files. To fix this, right click the extractor and click Run as administrator. That way windows wont halt the program when it tries to dissect the mpqs. As a personal preference, I keep my WoW folders in a public directory to avoid having to do that.

    Some More Food for Thought:

    Arcemu's Front Door (CLICK ME!)
What's a better way to find information about ArcEmu than from their site, right? Learn to compile ArcEmu, if it is your emulator of choice.

If you want to follow advice from the MMOWNED community (because we're not all *******s), the Guides & Tutorials section hosts a wealth of information.

If you look at Arc's svn in their Tags folder you will see source code for 3.0.9 which includes a map extractor for that revision. So just do a quick compile/setup and you'll have a working 3.0.9 with valid maps, etc. https://arcemu.svn.sourceforge.net/s...emu/tags/3.0.9
