    About hosting specs

    Greetings community.

    I've been planning to start my own pserver but im curious about the specs and cost of the hosting server i should rent for... lets say... 500-800 players, anyone care to enlighten me here?.

    You need to be realistic.

    Look how many servers start each day, look how many people actually play emulators.

    Your not going to get over 100 people very easily, it's very hard to establish a server and it takes a long time to establish a active population.

    So basically start off with something very cheap, dual core, 2GB RAM should be enough for up to 100 players. When it starts to lag out and the server can't cope - that is when you upgrade your server or transfer to a different one. Or you could even look into sharing resources, having kalimdor hosted on one server and outlands hosted on another for example.

    This is called clustering, if you decide to go this route. I have no idea which emulators, if any, support it.
