Wow Private server Hosting

Ok, im not sure if this is the area were i would put this question at. If it is not i would appreciate it if a moderater would do it for me. Well i would be very grateful if someone would explain in detail to me about these questions.

A repack - Can this be used solely by itself to run a private server ( including programs to set it up ) and make it online / lan.

The core - Is this needed to run a private server, and what exactly is it.

Ive spent the last 3 days about 18 hours a day trying to set up a private server. I do realize thats a stupid amount of time to spend on it, but when im determined i dont stop.
Basically im trying to host it on my computer ( eventually something better ) and be able to have other people connect to it online or lan. Right now i would like my cousin to be able to join it, we are part of the same network, but i would like it so anyone online can.
Ive gotten to the part were i can load the server myself and play on it. But when i follow the hundreds of guides that explain how to make it load with and with out hamachi i get no results. I would appreciate it if someone could please help me with this.

Ive used mangos, and Arcemu, and all the hours ive spent in the folders im pretty fluent with file names and locations.

The repacks that ive been able to run on my computer and play myself ( not lan or online ) that i personally like are Lights Hope repack 3.3.5a and Winkdogs3.3.2V2. The only thing is in these repacks ICC and Trial of the crusader didnt work ( i couldnt even zone in ). Also i did edit the server files to ignore the necessity to be in a raid.

Because i had the same problems, and i kept asking questions untill this thread was full, eventually i didn't get something useful until some guy gave me his email and we used Teamviewer, that was quit helpful

Yes but a repack is limited. You can not read the crash dumps, so you can not see why the server crashes, and you can not update the repacks core (at least not very easily). C++ scripts will also not be able to be implemented.

When people say the 'core' they are refering to the emulator. There are currently three major leading emulator's: ArcEmu, Trinity and Mangos. You download the 'source code' containing all the code for the emulator and 'compile' it into executable files etc that will make your server work.

For hamachi, the only difference between LAN and it is to change the realmlist from youriport, to hamachiip:yourport. You can read more guides on this on the official websites regarding your emulator, for example ArcEmu's: http://www.arcemu.org/wiki/index.php..._configuration

These raids/instances have been scripted by very few people and mostly for private origins. You can see my absolutely rubbish version if you want The Lich King to work for ArcEmu, or you can probably find a decent one for Trinity.
The best way to get things working is through trial and error, as well as constantly reading the emulator wiki's/documentation.
