Private Server Logs Me Into Retail

I've been playing on private servers for a while, and I got bored of WoW. Recently, I've wanted to play again, but whenever I edit the realmlist.wtf file it keeps logging me into the retail server. When I go back to the realmlist.wtf file it doesn't say "set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" or whatever it's set at by default, it shows the private server name. I've tried numerous private servers, but I keep logging into the retail server. Also, I'm patched to 3.3.5 as are all of the private servers that I try to play on. I've tried using google to find an answer, but I've come up with nothing.

Did you ever launch the client using a launcher made by the private servers? You might accidentally be launching that and they usually change your realmlist.

Heya...Are u using the same accname/password for both? ( private and retail )

if so, maybe you need to change the private server accname.

Joshpwnz, I've used both the private server launcher and the wow.exe file. It hasn't fixed my problem.

Kaidos, yeah I've been using the same name. I'll try a different one and see if it works.

It's because you are using your email address to sign in, with a private server you just use an account name, if you type an email in it will attempt to connect to the retail servers.

100% correct, I play the retail and private servers and I NEVER change the realm list, I have it setted to the private server, while I play retail because using a email automatically connects you to the battle.net/retail servers. My guess is you are attempting to use a email/password to log onto private and or you are not typing in the correct info

Think of it as a hidden gem, you no longer need to change your realmlist

Use your email on your private server and it simply takes you to retail.
