Best way to "start clean" with a private server?

For a long time now, I've dreamed of setting up a private server with all the quests, items, and NPCs tailored to my specifications. Perhaps it's silly, and it'll probably never even come close to completion, but I'd like to at the very least give it a shot.

With that said, what is the best way to create a starting point for this? Obviously, I would probably base it on another DB to begin with, mainly for gameobject locations (seriously, who wants to go through and manually place ALL of the signposts, braziers, mailboxes etc again?). Is it as easy as simply clearing the npc_spawn and quest tables?

I'm confused on what you are wanting. If im reading this right you just want a clean server no added quest items etc.?

    Sorry for not being clearer.

Yes, I want a clean server, but not entirely clean. Gameobjects are the main thing I want to keep, since spawning every signpost, mailbox, brazier, and door is nigh impossible for a single person.

Also, profession tomes/scrolls would be nice to keep too, since the profession system can't be changed anyway and re-creating them all would be largely pointless.

Well you going to wan't to compile a core such as ArcEmu - World of Warcraft server software package - Open Source Private Server - 3.3.5a. From there you are going to want to have a database witch i would use WhyDB 2010. This you have mostley everything in regular wow running like npc, gobjects, items, etc. There are tons of guides are here that should help you on what you want just use the search button.

I think this is what you are asking for.

Ahh yeah, I already have ArcEmu set up and all that, but which tables should I clear out in order to start clean with NPCs and quests? I ask because I don't want tons of unused data sitting in my DB.

Why when ever there is unused data in your database it doesn't add more pressure or lag to anything.

Mainly because when you have tons of unused entries, it makes it considerably more hairy to manage, not to mention it increases the size of your DB file, making DB backups take longer.

    creature_spawns, quests, quests_localized, gameobject_quest tables

Clear all of those and you should have a mostly clean world, except for gameobjects
