Simple answer: Because then you're just like everyone else who has that repack.
Look at your post, now back to mine; Now back to your post, now back to mine. Sadly, it isn't mine, but if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate content, it could look like mine. Look down, backup, where are you? You're scrolling through threads, reading the post your post could look like. What did you post? Back at mine; It's a reply saying something you want to hear. Look again and the reply is now diamonds.
Anything is possible when you think before you post. The moon is shrinking.
1. It takes no skill.
2. What happens when a patch comes out, you won't know how to recompile your server.
3. It's not hard to compile your own server, tutorials are out there. Use the search button!

well then wouldn't the best thing to do then would be to get a good repack and then get the source code? that way you have a server with fewer bugs and you have the tools to update it.
Some repacks I have found are actually good, like prydevs. You'll find a lot more bugs if you compile your own because no one has touched it. But the reason I don't like repacks anymore is because they are usually stuffed with a ton of crap that I don't want. Compile your own and watch how much faster it is and add what you want only! It's nice to know the guts of your server.
The simplest reason: Because you dont learn anything from it.
All the emulators are created in the name of learning, and if you havent already learned something Ill let you in on a secret: Its extremely rewarding when you, for the first time, manage to implement an idea.
Its also really addictive... before you know it you'll be adding code to automize playerhousing with movable furtniture or something else rediculously large like that![]()
A repack is just someone elses work, done in a way you might not particularly like. And it may have features you're dependant on and that suddenly disappear if they stop releasing new versions of that repack.
Doing it yourself not only feels awesome, but you get it the way you want it, and you're always ready to apply the latest patch![]()
A key thing that I didn't see mentioned here is that:
You can't read a crash dump when a repack crashes, so you don't know what caused the crash.
