    [ArcEmu] Just Compiled my Server

Hey, i just recently compiled my server. Using the guide http://www.mmowned.com/forums/ascent...r-scratch.html.

It was really helpful and thanks for posting it, helped alot, but i just have a few questions.

Whats the difference between a repack and a compiled server? They look the same tbh, and with a compiled server what can i do which i cant with repacks? ( updating? )

How do i update my compiled server to the newest patch?

Now ive compiled my server, can i start making things on it, and treating it like a repack?

In the furture if i update my server to the newest patch, will all the characters, accounts, game objects be gone??

Also i was thinking about getting a VPS Server to help start my server off, so then i dont need to run on my own computer at home. Is there anyway i could get all the files of the server from my PC onto the VPS Server? Same with database? So i dont need to start all over again?

Thanks Guys, please post your ideas. Really need the help

    Q. Whats the difference between a repack and a compiled server? They look the same tbh, and with a compiled server what can i do which i cant with repacks? ( updating? )

    A. You can keep updating your compiled server, say you find a bug in a new rev and you don't like it you can downgrade your rev or wait for a new one without having to download a repack everytime.

    Q. How do i update my compiled server to the newest patch?

    A. Normally when you compile the server it's at the latest patch, unless a new patch has only been released a few days ago, for that you would have to try and find a custom patch on the forums and manually apply it yourself.

    Q. Now ive compiled my server, can i start making things on it, and treating it like a repack?

    A. Yep pretty much, you can edit things via the DB, the best thing about using your own compile you can try messing around with the cpps before their compiled eg edit a few things like the messages or commands, try not to mess anything up though.

    Q. In the furture if i update my server to the newest patch, will all the characters, accounts, game objects be gone??

    A. Only if you replace your DB with a newer DB, if you update the core your database won't be effected.

    Q. Also i was thinking about getting a VPS Server to help start my server off, so then i dont need to run on my own computer at home. Is there anyway i could get all the files of the server from my PC onto the VPS Server? Same with database? So i dont need to start all over again?

    A. Yes, there is a transfer system with vps servers you buy, but the customer service with your host could always help you out with that.

If you just compiled your server, it should already be at 3.3.3 unless you didn't go to the head revision for whatever reason.

It downloads the latest release, aslong as its ArcEmu it should be patch 3.3.3, im pretty sure ArcEmu have set 3.3.3 support now, so you have no need to apply a patch

To get 3.3.3 now you need to apply a custom patch, download it, right click on the folder you downloaded ArcEmu too, click apply patch from the Tortoise SVN menu, and apply it.

When ArcEmu go to 3.3.3 officially, just do SVN Update and it will get all the new files, then recompile.

Objects/Characters are stored in the DB, not the core.

What game version are you using? What patch is your ArcEmu at?
