How would I start..

Hello everyone. I have been playing around on a lot of private servers lately.. I have even made a Few myself. never released to the Public though. But my question is, I would really love to start one up.. make it live. I am willing to pay as much it will cost. and i am willing to take that leap and stick through till the end. (( sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section or something. this is like maybe my third time posting.)) So were would I begin.. Should I compile my own Server. Or get a repack. I hear compiling your own is best. cause you can update it and Fix a lot of the problems you cannot on repacks... I have been reading a lot of tips on how to get a good server going. like finding good developers. But I am simply a nooby at this. and wish to learn everything I need to before bringing more experianced people into the server.. What should Is tart learning first. should I just get on my server and learn all the commands.. test out what I can do with Npcs and quests. build things.Until I got it all down? I would really love a good place to start.

In my opinion learn how to run a server make sure it doesn't overheat and security as an admin since your not going to be developing but definitley don't skimp on security good luck.

As a admin you will want to learn C++ and .Lua (.Lua if your going to use ArcEmu).

I would suggest compiling yourself, it takes no time or skill, and allows for easy updates.

As for what you listed to do, this is what a game master would do, not a admin, the admin is usually forseen to look after the server, developers to make items, and game masters to keep the game fair and peaceful.

ok Thankyou. ! this is really awsome advice.. it really helped. So yes Im going to start working on Lua right away and compile my own. you have been a really big help ^-^


EDIT: Were would be a good place to Start learning LUA: there are alot of guides on here. but are there any programs I should use? ((sorry i am a noob xD))

Well really its not something you would use a program... just good old notepad! Read some guides, get to know the functions.

There was a program released awhile back that helped with it, check the Emu Programs ^^
