    Just Wondering about programming...

Is there a technical reason as to why most, if not all, emus are written in C++? I know I am gonna get my pee pee whacked for saying this, but the UO emulator crowd seemed to have taken the better route in writing their emus in C#. It certainly allowed for easy incorporation of scripts and modifying game attributes.

Like I said, just curious and hope I do not have to put on my flame proof jammies

Most agree it should've been written in C# so you can take off your anti-flame suit.

It would be more suited for C#, but since the first one was written in C++ most have followed seeing as there is a baseline, im guessing it will slowly get warped over to C# but.. maybe it prevents secureity issues.

In this particular case, C# just wraps the same Winsock code that C++ uses. The managed overhead is negligible, if your code is properly designed it should be able to match C++.

People usually use C++ because they like the language, and it can be compiled for Linux. C# potentially has the same capability with Mono. I haven't used it, so I really don't know how well it works.

    I prefer C#. You get:

    - No memory leaks.
    - Rapid development. The code is easier to write, and the compile time is far faster.
    - Code is reusable with ASP.NET, which means you can write a website around the database with a lot less effort.

So really the question ends up being: Which language do you prefer coding in?

    That's my two cents.
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.
