[??] Display ID change not working & "Must have melee wep" for Custom Weapons menu

    [??] Display ID change not working & "Must have melee wep" for Custom Weapons

    Hi there,

    After adding a self-made weapon to my item DB, and giving this to my character in game, I find myself unable to cast certain spells because they require a melee weapon. Apparently, my custom weapons are flagged as non-weapons.

    Because it was mostly about the looks, I decided to change the display ID of a default weapon to the one I wanted in the item DB, but the game seems unaffected. Is there something I should do to "refresh" the display IDs or something like that?

    Thanks in advance.

    P.S: Could this be repack related? :confused:

    What repack are you using? I've only ever seen this bug on a ArcEmu customly patched 3.3.0 server.

    Thanks for your reply, but I'm using a Mangos 3.3.0a repack (Darkrulerz' I believe it's called). No custom patches whatsoever.

    I have the same problem would realy like to find out if there is any fix for this. Im using the latest mangos release and UDB release.

    It's a problem with patch 3.3 in general, there are two solutions:
    1) Replace it with a blizzard item (E.g: delete item id 50 and make your custom item id 50, delete cache reload items etc)
    2) Create a model edit for your custom item.
    It's basically the same solutions to the "?" icon bug.

    Seems blizzard screwed a few things over for us.

    There will probably be a simplier way found later, but for now, you need to do a model edit, or as Stone said, replace a premade item.

    i have tried this with 4 different builds of 3.3.0 mangos
    replacing the item simply destroys the old wow item and gives it a few of the stats your custom item did limited by how many stats the old one had AND it places the skin of that old weapon on the new custom one BUT still does not work as a weapon.

    as a matter of fact you can edit ANY item in the game that did work as a weapon before in the simplest way and it breaks too becoming a non working weapon.

    apparently blizzard has some secondary item database hidden in the game code that has the exact same number and stats and anything not in the hidden one will not work.

    3.3.0 is NOT a custom server it is used for BLIZLIKE only. nothing can be added or modified in any way. if you want custom you MUST use 3.2.2a or lower.

    Might be a problem with mangos because I'm using custom items fine (replaced with blizzard ones) in 3.3.2 trunk ArcEmu. :/ Although I havn't tested with weapons equiping, only armor etc. You don't even need custom items tbh, blizzard made them balanced and a hell'a lot of items to use for level 80, so why change them.

    oh sure, fine if you play on an 80 cap server. but on a custom funserver that has a 255 cap level 80 weapons just don't cut it. those servers make harder challanges for higher levels and custom instances and zones to be played which require more damage output.

    armor has always worked never had issues with armor its only weapons because skills and talents require certain weapons to be used.
    you can equip weapons just fine but the said skills will not be allowed to work or be used. items like bows won't shoot or fire at all (which is not cool as a hunter).

    Okay once you add an item to your server, you can actually edit the .dbc's to fix the ?, the fact that it doesn't count as an actual weapon for certain abilities, AND the fact that you can't right-click to equip it . No need to replace blizz items, I've already made over 100 custom items for my level 90 cap server, with custom quests and all that nice stuff

    This method is rather time consuming the first couple times you do it, but once you get the hang of it and start remembering the numbers for swords/staffs/armour and equip slots like 1h/2h/head. These numbers, btw, are 7/10/1,2,3, or 4 for cloth, leather, mail, and plate. 7 is sword, 10 is staff. 1h equip it 13, 2h equip is 17, head slot is 1. Now, that's all by memory. I don't know whether to be proud or shameful. xD

    So, once you have your custom item in your database, download this program called "DBCUtil" Just google "Download DBCUtil" and click the mediafire link, unrar it, and it's good to go.
    Now, copy your .dbc file from your SERVER folder. It would be in arcemu\bin\dbc\. Find the "item.dbc" file. Now, copy it, paste it into the same folder as DBCUtil, run DBCUtil, and open the resulting .csv file IN NOTEPAD, because excel seems to corrupt it.
    You will see a bunch of random numbers, which you can decypher by looking at your items table in your server! Yay! Corresponding to the column names in the arcemu database, the numbers mean this in their row order:
    ENTRYID,CLASS,SUBCLASS,(leave this at -1),QUALITY,DISPLAYID,SLOT,FLAGS,
    Now here is an example to help you out:
    70000,2,8,-1,5,46609,17,0,(Important: Remember the "," after the FLAGS number.)

    This makes my custom item with the entryid "70000" work like a blizz item, as long as all the columns match!
    Class: 2=Weapon,
    Subclass: 8=2hSword,
    -1,
    Quality: 5=Legendary,
    DisplayID: 46609=Frostmourne's DisplayID! It will look like Frostmourne!
    Slot: 17= Two Hands,
    Flags: 0,

    I hope this cleared up any issues you may have had.

    To put it into a custom patch and finalize it, just drag it onto the DBCUtil application again to convert it back to .dbc. Then just use an mpq program like WINMpq to pack it into a new patch. Name it "patch-enUS-4" the 4 can be any number really. WINMpq autosaves any changes, so just close WINMpq afterwards. Then put the patch into your world of warcraft\data\enUS\ folder. Now, the last part is to put the dbc in your server as well. It's as simple as dragging your newly converted .dbc file into it's original folder (arcemu\bin\dbc\). Now, fire up your server and it should work. For items, the patch will be less than 10mb, so it's not a huge problem to distribute it to any friends on your server.

    Check the model editing section, there are many guides in that section for everything from this to major patches.

    Blizzard made it so items are now handled by the DBC's. You're going to have to add one to your DBC files
