Connecting to regular servers despite changing realmlist

There was a previous post related to this problem, but it did not solve it satisfactorily, I believe (http://www.mmowned.com/forums/emulator-questions/272372-problem-connecting-regular-servers-not-private-server.html).

I have changed my realmlist to the one required by the private server i wish to access; however, I continue to connect to blizzard's servers. I am certain i have entered the realmlist in correctly, so it is not an issue with that. In the other post, the reason for this problem was given by Kiev,

What this is, is because of the fact that they integrated support for battle.net accounts no matter what the realmlist is. So its important that you login properly.

Unfortunately, I do not understand how logging in properly solves this problem.

A few notes that may or may not have anything to do with the solution to this problem: choosing a private server was an act of desperation after i failed to create my own. I tried the mangos repack by 711, as well as the guide on the mangos and arcemu forums for creating servers from scratch- due to my computer illiteracy I failed at them all (though the repack, i think, was a problem due to version issues). I do not believe that these are the cause of my problems, though, as evidenced by the fact that other people are experiencing this problem.
Even after deleting the realmlist altogether i still connect to blizzard servers without issue, which seems to be evidence that Kiev's assessment of the problem is correct.
I have deleted the wtf folder and cache folder; i have checked my config file to see if it is in line with the realmlist; it is.

I am guessing that you are trying to connect to any server? Private that is.

If you could post me your realmlist here, that would be something great.

The case could be that you made a account with your email address, instead of a simple account name like "Testtesttest", you shouldn't login with a email address, this is what pushes you forward to the battle.net servers.

My realmlist is currently

set realmlist logon.masschaos-gm.com

due to confusion as to what was required, i also tried a realmlist with this information replacing the top line of blizzard's information, but maintaining the rest of the realmlist.

My account name for the private server is not my email address, but rather a normal account name (similar to testestest).

The private server to which i am attempting to connect, as suggested by the realmlist, is the chaos all gm server advertised in the private server forum.

I have just tried to connect to this myself, and it seems that the server configuration is incorrect as i am constantly receiving a message saying "Invalid Account", so im guessing the server itself isn't rightly done.

When i connect to a private server usually, i keep everything but do this:

#set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set realmlistbn ""
set portal eu
set realmlist <Whatever the realmlist is here>

And this will usually work, so i advise trying a different server, and if it still dont work come back here.

A preliminary report, as i changed my realmlist to what you suggested; attempting to log into a battle net tied account now results in the message, there is no world of warcraft account tied to this battle net account. So, ironically, it seems this failure indicates a success, as i am no longer being redirected to blizzard servers. So, assuming i do not subsequently fail to connect to another server, you have my thanks, and even if i do not connect to another server, you have my rep <3
