    [Question] Which emu to choose?

    Hey,

I'm wonder what emulator i should use to match what i want to do.

I'm just coming back into the WoW emulation seen after playing retail for half a year, then trying out Aion which i found more boring then WoW in more senses.

I am going to create a project, kind of a futuristic expansion so to speak but its all database based, so no client edits are required.

I'm going to need to use phasing, what emulators does it currently work on? Are there any tutorials out there i could use so i can pick it up easier rather then having to teach myself.

Needs to hold about 100 players and be stable with an uptime of a few days or as minimal crashes that you would expect.

Most of the talents should be working as intended.

Also, if anyone knows any good fast tools to make creatures, items etc would be helpful so i don't have to find nor SQL make it =)

    [Question] Which emu to choose?

    Don't be so biased.

There are a few different DBs for different Emu's. Try each one and see how you like them would be my advice.

If your fluent in C++ I would go with TrinityCore due to some very good bug fixes.

If not i would try Hearthstone, ArcEmu or Mangos.

My project just moved away from Trinity, due to poor support and lack of devleopment...

I also found more bugs on Trinity, than I did on the Mangos revision we're using.

Not to say its, bad, it was just lacking what we needed, and we found what was required for a few systems on our server.

Also, as far as I know, all of Trinity's DB's firstly support Mangos, and Trinity as an afterthought (Not completely sure on this point however).

Imho, after being an Antrix/Ascent based emulator user (Yes, I was here when Antrix was #1 and went through all the Emu drama in 2008 and yes, I miss Antrix :< ) for about 2 years, I have to say... Mangos really impressed me with its stability, function and support. Great community and everything.
Not saying that Ascent Emus are bad, I'm just saying that Mangos really impressed me and that you should try it. It's a fantastic project with a great program.

Try in this order: Mangos, Trinitycore2, Hearthstone, ArcEmu

Not trying to start up a flame, but trinity is exactly the same as mangos almost and Hearthstone is terrible at the moment. I wouldn't attempt to run a live server with it even if you gave me $500. He should try them all and especially try Mangos + Arc since they are the two leading projects at the moment and have a huge contrast.

Mangos has more spells/talents working and I think more BG's / Arena's, but it is harder to setup and work with than ArcEmu. My advise is try and get mangos to work, then if you can't figure it out and you have enough time post for help, if you don't have enough time go for Arc. If you can't work out Arc either and your running close to your LAN party quickly download a repack and use that.

thanks for the quick response, I've setup mangos in the past. I think i remember some moon database or something, I am sure i can figure it out and with some admin tools I should be up an running. Do you know if the collision detection works better or well now?

If you have maps and vmaps extracted, yes it works well I believe.

Actually, theres a few differences between Trinity and Mangos, with Mangos being more stable (In my opinion).

I wasn't able to find any real benefit of running Trinity instead of Mangos though, as its way behind.

    Thanks guys,

I think i'll give mangos a go firstly, i haven't used them since they started in the late 1.12 patch series. I guess if i don't like what i see, i can always change =]

Going against myself here i would say ArcEmu to start off with as its pretty dam easy to setup and everything is avilable at the click of a mouse however same with Mangos but which ever you choose is mainly dependant on the person themselves due to personal preference.
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.

I decided to go with arcemu, because of the LUA system.. from what i can remember of mangos all your scripts need to be c++ and compiled with it.. so arcemu is faster and easier for me when it comes to those little things.
