Can you cache edit gear?

I've been trying to cache edit gear on private servers by changing the item ids anyone know why its not working or of a working method?

Spells work but im not sure i just try to find the hex of the item ids and the gear wont switch not sure if its much dif then spells but =/

Use Glitchy's MES and ModelSwapper? You probally just fail at hex editor.
