Bit Foggy on Making my own server.

I am a bit foggy on making my own server for WOW.
    I have read thru http://www.mmowned.com/forums/emulat...ers-guide.html

And understand it a bit,but am unclear as to where I get the actual server. Is it from the Client?
Do I take the WOW Client, and modify it?Or does the repack do this?
I see that I need Norwegian Elite 3.1.3 Repack, Navicat Lite, and WinRar.But the Repack is only like 144 MB and I know the "Official" Client is over 14 GB.
Does the repack require me to have WOW 3.1.3 installed?
Do I need a seperate install of WOW to play on the "private" server?

I want to have my own private server for exploration and testing items, and to learn other classes.I would like to run it and the client on the same machine.

Yes, the repack requires you to have the game installed, eg: if you had the Norwegian Elite 3.1.3 you would need 3.1.3 installed on your pc. Whether or not you need a seperate install folder depends on whether you want to change your realmlist.wtf file whenever you change servers. For simplicity, I'd say no, you don't need a seperate folder. Just change the realmlist.wtf settings whenever you want to play on a different private server.

Hope this helps, ask if you have more questions =)

Ok just clear stuff up a little more the wow CLIENT is only for receiving data and taking and putting MODELS or looks on the data. Then it says here you can play i have data. The realmlist says were your receiving data from. So if put the realmlist as 127.0.0.1 it would be receiving the data from you own computer.

Now the repack is a folder full of data. when you run wow.exe and logon.exe it is at first interprets the data and then sends it out. To anyone who is willing to receive it.
How they Receive it is by change their realmlist to your external ip or your external ip's DNS. The DNS is just like and mask for the external ip so you don't get hacked and stuff.

The database is TABLES OF TABLES of data (database data of course). Just think of it as an easy editable storage facility for the repack. Together the repack and the database send out data for people to play on your wow.

Hope that answered all your questions

I want my own "private" server for testing and solo play/exploration.Still not sure about things.I know the client is what Blizzard sells you,but I am unclear as to how to convert the client into a server.A few questions....

1.Do I need a separate machine to run the server from?
2.Is a download like Norwegian Elite 3.1.3 the server I need to run?
3.Do I run Norwegian Elite 3.1.3 and it converts a copy of the client into the server?
4.I need version x.x.x client to run against version x.x.x server, correct?
5.The term Repack is basically used to describe the "redone" server?

    1. No i run my server and wow on my computer as long as it is a very good computer you shouldn't lag

    2. NE is the repack i use it is very good and for your purposes it will excelent.

    3. No it doesnt touch that like i said before all it does it recievies signals from the database and the DBCs witch should be in the folder and sends out data waves to whoever whats to pick em up like in your case only you. The only that changes in the client is the Cache and the realmlist. Cache- just keeps records of all the visual items you should delete it everyone once in a while for a more healther wow.

    4. In the logonserver config there is a thing that is minbuild - XXXX and a maxbuild -XXXX make min 1 and max 9999 everypatch will be able to play now.

    5. Yeah i guess so
