    What should I choose?

    Hi MMOwned

For the very first time I want to try to compile my own core, make it stable and then run a public private server. I want my private server to be fully updated to Blizz's patches so I preffer a core that is being worked on. For now I have tested repacks for Trinity, ArcEmu and Mangos and I can't decide which one I should use.

I just learned scripting in Lua so its a must that LUA works, prefferably Gastric's version of LUA aswell, but as I was running repacks I still haven't tested GUA.

I want it to be stable with about 100 players, its of course a + if it can take more.

I found it very easily to manage my ArcEMU server as it has loads of tools like FDE and many others that are being updated daily on the MMOwned forums, it also has Ascent CMS which is great, BUT I asked about vmaps, and the response was that it is very buggy in Arcemu, VMaps is a must for my server as I will be doing a PvP/PvE server, and VMaps will be needed.

I know Quice is a good tool, but I had problems with using it on the 3.1.3 version of Mangos.

I know no other good tools for Mangos, and no tools at all for Trinity.

I didn't get to use Trinity that much as I didn't understand it very well, but from people's threads, many think its good.

I would love a good guide on how to compile a server as I am still a big fat nub

I also want to do some DBedits, so tools for DBedits would have been great.
So this thread coming to an end, what do YOU think I should choose?

    MUST:
    LUA support (prefferably GUA aswell)
    VMap support
Core being worked on/Updated for patches
    Stable with 100 players
    3.1.3 support

And its good if it has:
Good tools for DB Editing, like Quice, changing Zones from PvP to Sanctuary, etc.
Capacity for more than 100 players.
Communities where I can get some help.

Sorry for grammar issues, now please help me

AND ALSO, if you can add me on msn and come talk to me on MSN about this instead of talking to me here on the forums (which is time-comsuming) add me, anton_abilov (@hotmail(.)com) I will +rep you for doing this.

LUA support (prefferably GUA aswell) - Heartstone / ArcEmu
VMap support - MaNGOS / Trinity (Ascent based have lot problems with this from what i've read, crashes bugs etc)
Core being worked on/Updated for patches - MaNGOS / Trinity / Heartstone
Stable with 100 players - MaNGOS / Trinity / Heartstone (You have to have knowledge of which rev to take though) And Arcemu, but that's currently for patch 3.0.9
    3.1.3 support - MaNGOS / Trinity / Hearstone

Good tools for DB Editing, like Quice, changing Zones from PvP to Sanctuary, etc. - MaNGOS / Trinity / Heartstone / Arcemu - eg all of em, you just have to know how to read and _MOST IMPORTANT_ Stop using repacks.

Capacity for more than 100 players. - All of them are able to handle more than 100 players.

Communities where I can get some help. - getmangos.com > Home , Trinity Core MMo Server Framework - Powered by vBulletin , AspireDev Forums - Powered by vBulletin Welcome to ArcEmu :: The home of the #1 MMORPG Emulator!

For my personal opinions, for blizzlike server where you pvp / pve alot, i would suggest using either MaNGOS / Trinity, as the amount of things working / alot smaller amount of bugs compared to the two is very big.
But, none of them support Lua, which i do not see as a problem since you have c++ & EventAI scripting ability (Scripting in DB, eg SQL)

Well, the fact that it doesn't support LUA kinda scares me :S But does Trinity really have easy to use tools like for example FDE? I know Mangos also has MangAdmin which is epic. How is C++ or EventAI? Is it similiar to LUA, HTML, PHP or Javascript as I know those, or is it alot harder?

As I said I didn't get to use Trinity that much, but I am pretty familiar to Mangos. I want to choose the best, so I guess I'll just be waiting for more replies

Oh and also, do you think it will be hard to mod Ascent CMS into Mangos or Trinity? I have good knowledge of web scripting.

    FDE?
Trinity basically has all the same tools available than mangos has, they are all ported over since those 2 don't differ much from each other.

Well since you ask how is C++ i can say straight that do not even think about it.

But EventAI is quite easy, it's documented very nicely.

And i don't personally see why would you need Lua for server if your not planning to make lot of custom stuff, which you can create with any other scripting languange aswell.

Of course you can't really explain WHAT C++ is, but you could at least give me the heads up on trying C++, as I have NO knowledge in C++, I only want to know how hard it is, but anyway, thanks and +Rep to you for replies. I think i am going for mangos, or trinity, I'll figure out.

    *bump and update*
I hate to admit, I am back to square and would love MMOwned's opinion once again

I have found out that I just can't stick to Mangos/Trinity core anymore. Its more complicated, and the number of guides and tools is less. I find the C++ more complicated, of course its good that it doesn't have many bugs, but still I just can't. I miss GUA aswell, even though I know GUA isn't good, I like it Ok
What I want your opinion on is what Ascent/ArcEMU based core I should use now?
I know some out there have vmap support, so what I am looking for is as I just said an Ascent/ArcEMU based core for Arena, Raiding and BG with:
    Stability for about 200 players
    VMap support
    Most Up-To-Date with Blizz's patches.
And that's about it. I understand that an emu can't be perfect, but what do you find closest to perfect of the all?
    ec0? ascent? aspire? arcEMU?

Sorry for a messy post, as you can see I am pretty confused

Well, to put it quite frankly, you're not going to get it, especially that last part.

The best you'll get is Aspire/Hearthstone. Stay away from ArcEmu.

    Ok, Aspire/Hearthstone

Though, but it has a different database structure from ArcEMU and ascent?

And as I am still a nub in emulation, Is there one aspire and one aspire/Hearthstone, or is it all Aspire/Hearthstone? :S

They merged awhile ago, they call it Aspire, but the code project is named Hearthstone, so I just have no idea what to call it. xD

Aspire Have 3.1.3 and it seems stable. Its in their branch folder. They havent put it in their trunk folder as yet because they have to change alot of code for shared pointers that they use.

As for DB use Rival DB. Its fully compatable with Aspire and you dont need to convert anything.

TrinityCore 2. It's the best emulator around, though, for that matter, it beats Ascent in it's prime imo.
