Now that I have a working 3.1 server up with :devildance:Ulduar:devildance: not working.....:soapbox:...

How do you add or modify news posts like blizzard adds on monday nights about their tuesday maintance?

Pretty much what Gastric said, it's just not possible. havn't you noticed that on all private servers they will always still be the same as blizzards messages?

Nope never used anyone private server except my own. And those are up for only a couple months at a time for exploration then its back to the live servers.+Rep for the replys

It used to be possible, but I believe Big B has changed their client thingey to prevent this change.

I was wondering about the same thing, a couple of days ago, and me and a few fellow developers think that that host message is actually embedded into the WoW-Client itself some how. With some type of query script that ask Big bad-b For updates, but will general just post the same message if Big B isn't doing something special that week.

And I defiantly agree with Claiver cause i remember about a year and half ago that One of the private server i used to play on had a custom message up.

Thats a modded login interface. No changes on wow.exe, just a launcher in front of it. (Well, if you disregard the background. That needs a .MPQ).

thats a model edit, u just edited the things in locale-enUS.MPQ and made a new patch with mpqeditor or mywarcraftstudio to connect to another page, asking for news.

Try doing so and you will see how little of it works.

You need - as said - a custom launcher, enableing more than only modelediting. And as you need that anyway therefore, you can also just do it in the Launcher.

As the URL is a LUA-String, you can just call Lua_DoString before the news window is getting pushed and you will have your own news there.

Of course, there is no possibility to do so - as said - without the launcher or a with only a serverside modification.
