Make sure you first uninstall Mysql, and delete any folders left behind from the program.
The go to START > RUN > and type REGEDIT in the RUN command
1) you are looking for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
2) open the little '+' symbol on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and look for '+' SYSTEM
3) open '+' SYSTEM and then look for '+' Current Control Set
4) open '+' Current Control Set and look for '+' Services
5) open '+' Services and scroll down that tree list and DELETE any folders that say MYSQL, MYSQL4, MYSQL5, MYSQL51, or MYSQL501
6) by doing this you are taking the newly formed 'mysql' service from windows , so when you reboot and reinstall mysql, the OS will have no memory of a previous botched install.
I hope this helps
