[Help] Connecting to a remote DB

As the title implented, I am looking for help for connecting to a remote DB. I am using navicat, and the hoster is using MySQL and Navicat for his DB. I tried to connect to his database but it says error 2003 - can't connect to server. If anyone can help me by giving me a guide on how to connect to databases via Navicat or if someone personally wants to help me I really appreciate it. Thanks beforehand. Just leave a post or PM me.

Make sure that the person hosting MySQL has port 3306 open, if he doesn't then theres your first problem. Use his IP not the hostname.
If your still unable to connect, it could be a firewall issue etc.
If your through but your getting wrong account name/password he has to go into tools, add user, and put % as ip or your exact external ip, then restart MySQL to enable your user.
If your still getting invalid username/password after that then i'm not sure what could be wrong.
On second thoughts if you cant get a connection to the other computer after what I said, try using hamachi and when he makes you a profile use the hamachi ip. That should work as you don't even need to open ports.

Thanks, gonna try it. So basically if I connect to his Hamachi IP he wouldn't need to open the ports right? Never knew about the add user though, gonna try that one to, thanks.

Well you both have to have hamachi running, you connect to hamachi ip, and the normal info, and he has to put your ip when creating the profile as your hamachi ip not % or it wont work.
