Best operating system for hosting a private server?

I was planning on hosting a private server and using FreeBSD but is there anything better for hosting WoW servers only.

There is no correct answer to this question, all it will do is start a flame war. The best choice is the O/S that you feel most comfortable with administering.

I'm no Emulator Expert, but I think he was saying Windows XP, which was before windows vista.. It's better than windows vista though lol..

Well the best that i know is Windows server 2003,
But if you don't want to use that, i would recommend Linux

I would choose linux over FreeBSD as you will probably get more support when using it (not here obviously), since more people are using it for server hosting. Distribution doesn't really matter imo, even ubuntu server edition is good enough and it's easy to use. If you're a more advanced user you can choose gentoo or something.
