    Hosting a private server?

    Just wondering if running a private server on your computer makes other computers lag on modem/router.


    Just for you guys wondering who I am, I am Bigdog8493 just got my username changed today!

    Depends on your connection, and how many people you have connected.

    You use the same pipe for machines that are networked, and their connections to the internet for uploading and downloading.

    If you have a server running which is constantly sending information out, and being queried from lots of outside machines, then yeah, its probably going to restrict the amount of communication between other PCs on your network.

    if ur using wireless yes, if ur connected using a cable to ur router no if ur on cable then no.

    Unless you can manually configure your router to only allow a certain percentage of your bandwidth for the server, which, personally, every router Ive tried does a really bad job.

    Although we dont know what kind of connection he has, if he has a large bandwidth connection it would matter less than if he had 1meg broadband :P

    im wireless with 1 other wireless and one wired computer, no diff
