which way to go?

I used to have an ascent server running ... cant remember which version but it was fairly stable. Now i want to set up another server ... funserver that is. Just want it for local lan play. I plan on completely reinstalling wow an i will just patch to whichever version I need.... have several patch files on my computer. Basically what I want to know is what is the most stable core and what funserver DB I should use with it .... stability is the most important. Working quests, skills, spells, professions, is second... as far as mall or any other things ... i can find an update or make them myself .... although a DB that incorporates all these would really help my laxy procratinating side ... lol ... any help would be greatly appreciated........

PS if i must compile and etc myself ... a good link to a walkthrough faq would be needed too :wave:

*groan* your going to have 5 pages of people saying what they think is best now.

If i was you, I would go for Ascent or ArcEmu. There the most easy to do custom content for a funserver with, and are both relativly stable, should support your local needs perfectly. You can download one of the thousands of repacks in emulater server releases or try to compile your own (not hard, just need to have time and patience) and you can find a guide in emulater server guides on the first or second page probably, theres that many. With Ascent or ArcEmu you have the huge advantage of Lua which is a blessing from the gods to do custom content with, and also there is so much you can edit in the DB with no concequences. Most of it you can work out yourself. Also there is more releases for Ascent and ArcEmu because you can do more with it at the moment, and mangos seems to have a bad repuation (don't ask me why).

Mangos, has more quests, can be more stable, more working spells, skills, etc. The only down side is that it's a nightmare to customize, this is why blizzlike realms go mangos, and funservers ascent or arcemu.

In the end, it's up to you to decide, have a look around there websites, but don't listen to the people who just say "Go mangos" or "Go ascent" without any real reasons.

I'd say go with Aspire. Right now they are (In my opinion) the most stable Ascent based emulator. I'm not even going to bring MaNGOS into this because you said you wanted a funserver.

-A good dev team
-Frequent updates for 3.0.2
-Extremely stable
-Many bug fixes
-Great community
