they will prob develop it so its safe for weedy servers, look how mangos was be for tbc and now after tbcHigh spec servers would be able to do it, Thats what its made for :P. Little servers will be weeded out and become useless.

no offence to the CoT team, but ascent is almost a full time things, many developers and many donations. I think they can come with a better emulator , but it will be hard to update.
Haha, I don't really want to think of this..![]()
pfft. I disagree with alot of statements.
If Blizzard can make a server then Ascent can. It wouldn't take that much more space, there will only be a handful new maps, dbc's admittedly would be large...
Then, for the database... Items would have quite a few added indeed, same with creatures and objects. But hasn't aload already been made, Blizzard will probably just copy and paste alot with a few slight adjustments. Look at the armour sets for example.
RAM wise, it wouldn't take much more either. The changes in WotLK will be made to help Blizzards servers not make it tougher. It seems the same as usual. Ascent would need to load the 1 new map, and the few objects/creatures/items needed. Please remember though Blizzard don't use gameobjects often, they have the objects built into the maps. Only active objects need spawning.
On our rev 7 for GM isle, we used around 20 wmo's (mega gameobjects) which are the main if not all the cause for the lag. We also used around 10k normal objects to cover areas too. We are planning to sort out the lag problem with rev 7 as it seems to overload many servers.
I highly doubt WotLK will need any wmo's spawning, and only around maybe 1k objects?
Please correct me if I am wrong, but Blizzard aren't going to make a game too big to play are they now? I know we aren't talking about Blizzard here. But they have the same mortal problems as us such as hard drive space and ram etc, they manage to cope fine with alot of players. Ascent I'm sure will cope with that little extra pressure.
It's a lot easier for blizz like you said because most of their game objects are built into the map. Although that's not the case for NCDB databases...
Blizzard's machines are incredibly well equipped so they can host whatever they make easily.
If someone created a database where objects were actually part of the map like you said, then there would be much less lag, but for now it's not the case.
I do think I was wrong about the RAM usage, though ascent will obviously have to load a much bigger database( i think we can agree on that) and MUCH more scripts will have to be made.
hmmm, arent i lucky! i think il open a server again once they make an emu for it!
i know at least il last with 6gig RAM and 1TB HDD space and also not to meantion the dual quad cores! =]
wooohoooo!
I'm am fairly sure that they wouldnt use gameobjects for buildings. maybe they can animate WMO's
but will ascent be used for wotlk?
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
apparntly som1 got some on the WOTLK files from Blizzcon....but idk
and it wont really lag
1) it will prolly be activated if a player is on the map
2) burlex will finish clustering !!! woohoo (hopefully)
I really hate to think about this, but i think wotlk will be great fun in retail but chaos/carnage on emu servers.![]()
But yeah, we all know the ArcEmu team is pretty much a farce... unfortunately, it's a farce with a gazillion users. - Hellgawd

I think you guys are looking into this a little too much...
WoW is already a 10+ gig game consisting of 70 maps. MOST of which are 10 megs or smaller. The largest maps?
1. Azeroth 263megs
2. Out Lands 201megs
3. Kalimdor 178megs
4. Emerald Dreams 67megs
5.? 19 megs.
Northrend, the new continent of WotLK isn't going to be 10x all the other maps. Don't fool your self, Blizzard wants to release an expac every year increasing the level cap by 10 each time. They aren't going to be adding mass content because they know players who are addicted, will stay addicted. They don't need 15 new dungeons for ppl to keep playing, it's 10 levels, a few new mounts 300 new items and a few more game objects.
As for Game objects and npcs and mobs I wouldn't expect much more in that department either. Most of the mobs are same with new color and a tid bit of armor.
This isn't going to crash all smaller private servers at all, it may add more ram usage but really 1-2gigs RAM will still work. Unless you use vista, get 12.
What it may do is bring more people to updated servers who want to check out all the latest gear faster. I hope to have my servers up and running smoothly by this time![]()
see you there mafia,

In the beginning it will have lots of bugs, but give it a month or 2 after the release of wotlk and there will be a nice playable revisionand after 4-6 months wotlk will be very stable...
grtz![]()
Thats good to know. I'm not really that savy with emu servers but i hope it will be resolved rather soon after release.![]()
