just reconfiguring the .mpq file you need a lot of programming and model editing knowledge to do that and then with the .mpq file create some kind of patcher or download link in your server web page so users can have your custom .mpq file :P

Make a .mpq with it and post on website, then everyone will use MEfix.exe to see it.

I've been on a server before where there were custom textured items... so there must be a way to do it server side - I don't care how complicated it is, I just want to know how to do it...

Probably an item blizzard is making but never released yet..
mmm ok here in mmowned are some guides of model editing then google for some kind of guides of how to reconfigure your .mpq file after done with that you can make a custom launcher (guide also here in mmowned) so they download from it the custom .mpq file i dont know how to make any of these but hope i help you

You probaly saw an item that blizzard never used. Install MW studio, and model viewer and open patch-enUS > Dbclient >Itemdisplayinfo.dbc. After that, open the model viewer and go to Items > Objectcomponents, then look for cool looking items and FINALLY search for it in MW studio. like put axe_2h_blood_d_01.mdx is an example
I've been to a server... where they had a custom cape - and it had the server's name on it... I don't recall having to download a separate .MPQ, but maybe I am mistaken...
