AFG warriorz started project again with ascent !!!
about your idea: bad idea i think... why bother making "another" emu while there are good ones you can edit?
ascent = good... but with private fixes (make a team for that) you can make it even better
we for example on lowlands have latest revs... but still support GMscript thx to a core edit... + we make our own core subrevs

cuz if you ask me... i don't give you much chance to survive unless you make it huge... wich is impossible with the community
yes there are a lot of extremely good members that have a lot of knowledge about scripting/c++ etc etc etc.... but look at ascent team.. its HUGE and development is not "extremely" fast ...
Soooooo much emu projects started.... almost zero survived
So i think it would be better to just make a team to release private core and DB revs
