    [Resolved] Recreating vanilla in 3.3.5a/4.3.0a

    [EDIT]
I am no longer looking for input on this. If you read through the entire thread and actually have a good idea to improve upon my ideas, feel free to post, but otherwise please keep it to your self.
    Thanks
    [/EDIT]

So as the title says I am basically attempting to recreate a vanilla experience in wrath/cata.
This is a personal project so don't expect anything to be released, but I do want some input and opinions.

    These are my ideas:
So what do you think of a 3.3.5a server with the level cap at 60?
I hear about how obtaining things could take a while in vanilla (yeah I never actually played vanilla aside from getting to around level 27) so I was thinking about making a death knight not just obtainable via having a level 55. There could be a long quest chain for paladins (I don't know the lore for death knights beyond Arthas was a paladin and became a death knight, I'll look into this when I have the chance).
The talents would be reverted to the 60 talents for the most part.
Naxx would either be reverted or converted to a 60 raid. (I don't know anything about the 60 -> 80 changes for naxx).
Then I would work on converting the new raids to 60 raids for 20/40 like vanilla raids along with similar mechanic styles.

I also had additional (mix and match separate) server ideas for not so vanilla-like experiences, but to be tacked on to my expanded vanilla server:
Death Knights are their own faction and are enemy to both the alliance and the horde.
    FFA PVP server mode
Factions no longer limit players interaction.

I have to go but I have more to add and will edit it later.

I almost drowned in the depth of your post.

    A few notes:
I had many different and separate ideas and you referred to it all as one.
You didn't explain why you viewed it as such and I'm curious as to what type of servers you are interested in to get your point of view.

    Oh and:
    It's*

People look back on vanilla and like it because:

    1) The game was less commercial.
    2) You couldn't access the epic stuff without spending hours, and hours, and hours grinding and attempting to do it.
    3) Natural Nostalgia.

If Blizzard re-released the vanilla servers now, nobody would enjoy them. They were buggy, too hard to enjoy at times, almost every quest was grind'y, it was a nightmare to progress within raids, the leveling took much longer than it does now, everyone had to grind each reputation to exalted through 1-2 dailies... etc. It just wouldn't be the same.

I played vanilla, and as much as some of my most fond memories are from that time, I do admit that it would not be the same re-released. And you cannot recreate that 'Azeroth' world feel anymore, in my opinion.

So my input would be to think of a better project, because as you said yourself, you are not familiar with what people are looking for - you only got to level 27.

Vanilla is of the past, and alot of people are not willing to move from a very advanced world back down to a simple world. Your best option is to develop a blizzlike server and go from there at 3.3.5a or develop a unique fun server(notice the bold? I'm not saying a few simple items and bam! - call it fun. i mean new events, new self-lore quests or RP quests, soloable-crazyassbosseswithanepicfightscene). But yeah, i'm sure alot of people would like the idea of a "3.3.5a Vanilla", but probably after they play it they'll probably get pretty bored.

Well most of this is just going to be a personal project with maybe not even a party full of friends. And yeah, if I had a small change server I'd just advertise it as blizzlike. I do plan on creating all of those. Thanks for your input.

My ideas were actually all inspired by DotA WoW and similar. Once I saw the power that private servers have, I decided I wanted to change a lot of things and this was just my first idea.

I do plan on keeping a few ideas on there, namely the ones in the additional part of my OP, along with the DK quest.

Well, back to the general idea drawing board for me I suppose. Thanks again.

Vanilla wasn't that good, the thing that I miss the most was the community. Sure, there was trolls but they were amusing, unlike the 12 year olds who populate trade chat these days. Barrens chat, /1 Chuck Norris

Everywhere on the internet ppls that never actualy played vanilla in 2004-2005 say "wooowww i miss vanilla", "vanilla was soo much better" well IT WASN'T.
Leveling was a pain in the ass, i leveled an warrior to 60 and it was horrible :-s i wasn't able to kill 2 moobs in the same time, rage system was that bugged that it took almost 3-5 seconds to use 1 spell, quests were very boooooooring. pvp was unbalanced, and to get endgame pvp gear there was no skill needed only endless hours of farming. THAT WAS REAL VANILLA.

2004-2007 ... Leveling was hard due to spells costing too much and you earned almost no gold while leveing up.. You werent able to kill 2 mobs at the same time ? How ****ing horrible were you... rage system wasnt bugged.. grindquests are simple and easy but boring yes.. Vanilla pvp is more balanced then Cataclysm... You've probably never even raided AQ40/Naxx so you have no clue about what kind of skill it takes.. You have no ****ing clue about vanilla

    Vanilla: 2004-2007
    TBC: 2007-2008
    WoTLk: 2008-2010
    Cataclysm: 2010-2012
    Mists of Pandaria: 2012-2014
