What is a funserver now a days?

Well really what does it mean now?

If you look at the server thread almost every server says funserver.

People have changed what funserver is now its a mall and a few custom items.

Wasn't a funserver a server that was completey different from what retail is and other servers are and have a different unqiue experience.

Funservers where changing up the world level cap is higher to provide a different leveling twist, There were custom quest/lore to it, Custom areas,Custom Instances, not just a few custom items but basically over 1000's of custom items. This is just a small list.

Funservers provided a unique experience now they all provide the same experience, if you go to one funserver you been to them all, There are some exceptions to this their are server who qualify to be a funserver but don't meet all the requirements of how it use to be.

    Here are some-
    Feathermoon
    infernowow
Naxpgaming use to be I don't know how it is now.
ScapeGaming( I know not really what I said as the descripting But I enjoyed it)
Don't remember the exact names but Thegod wow I think it is
InfinityGaming( ehhh it gets a bit boring)
AMD WoW I enjoyed them back in 3.0.9
Legendary WoW I think the name is.

A small list off the top of my head.

Now not all of those have all the qualites of a funserver as they claim them selves to be but they are still fun and enjoyable.

Time to right about the server's I listed.

Feathermoon: It is a enjoyable server if you have friends on the server or you might get ganked at guru without but besides that there are new custom quest with great rewards, Custom instances well they redid DM and added a quest line to that, Revamped OS and also class quest for that. Nice organizable mall, Flying in azeroth if your a donor and purchase the mount that is, Friendly people some what

Infernowow: Another enjoyable server the population is not that big but it can boom to 40+ certain hours. There are custom instances that drop custom gear which is plus to me I enjoy that, Their pvp system announces who killed who and after killing the person you get a PvP Token with 100 you can get a custom pvp item at the PvP vendor, The players on there are cool and friendly also.

Naxpgaming: Before I think it was on BG REV/Ultra there was some nice pvp and a custom instance to get some custom items, you could also donate for VIP or custom gear with your name on it, But the best feature was the Instant 80 Realm where you level up to 90, the leveling road as usuall was in Hyjal but was enjoyable which each creature you killed you gained experience and custom tokens to purchase custom tiers.

ScapeGaming: The Scape aka the funrealm was the most enjoyable to me there was fast leveling and custom gear only obtained through donating but thats not what captured me the raiding was what did, They did not have custom instances but there popluation was high with over 2k people on raiding was actually fun and similar to retail raiding which I enjoy very much.

Infinity Gaming: Its a fun realm im going to admit your first time though its like woah this is awesome you level up to 255 with custom gear sets for 1,45,80,100,150,200,255 I think. There are custom instances a bunch actually, Custom world bosses for both ally and horde and ton's of custom item's and a good population also, But after its recent issue of it getting hacked by its partners and losing there characters db, I stopped playing cause only one of my characters were returned to me and then lost again.

AMD WoW- Ahh the good times back on 3.0.9 I've payed for vip 3 I think it was and wow I was amazed the gear that I could get and how PvP with other VIP's became fun also defending Ironforge and taking over Org really was enjoyable, I enjoyed there VIP system the higher VIP the more likely you get drops custom item drops by mobs and more experience from them also. I might check up on them again.

Legendary WoW: Legendary wow is really enjoyable with the custom stairs and mobs to get a level up book which raises you a level and a talent point book which gives you an extra talent and the weapon point system, with a certain amount of these you could make a custom weapon on their site and then after its made get in game that was great also there voting system were by level's level 1 would get 1 point each vote but the more votes more experience you could get and level up to the next level and then if you were say level 5 you would get 5 points each vote.

Now what I like to see in funservers are the following:

Maybe a slightly higher level cap
    Custom items example: Gear,Weapons,Mount's etc..
If modification to the core to allow flying mounts in azeroth.( I have the code somewhere if you need it pm me)
    Custom Instances
    Custom Areas
    A unique PvP system
    Custom Quest/Lore
    Nice and organized mall/s
Custom Npc's example: Teleporter is a must, Buff NPC, Fun Music NPC's etc...
Good and Friendly interactable GM's for example: You can actually interact with the GM's instead of you just writing tickets for problems you can actually hang out and interact with them.
Custom Event's well Event's example: Stairs, Hide and Seek, Boss event, Protecting your faction's leader from the opposite faction invading, PvP events.

What is a funserver now a days?

I agree with you dude, Funservers are all the same. With the exception of some, there is not a lot there. I'm trying to work to get a funserver started. I want mine to be different so people need to spend time, and if they want some cash for their gear. Also I love to make obstacle courses, which I find to be mandatory for a funserver.

    Love this post.

Yeah, funservers are really not that fun. Every server I try, I log in and first discover its very laggy, then all of the NPC names, item names and NPC dialogue are plagued with poor spelling mistakes.

Then you get the donator items - They push and push and push you to give them money, and if you do, you automatically become godlike in PVP and PVE, ruining it for everyone else (And whats worse is that they seem to develop the server around getting people to donate rather than making it fun)

Im really enjoying Molten WoW right now - They arent funservers (Blizzlike - 12x rates) but they sure are more fun than all of the others that claim to be funservers, each of the three servers is almost always at the player cap (4000) and theres still no noticeable lag when playing

I'm after custom, custom custom custom. But not silly 'funserver' custom, which I have come to associate the word with. I don't like servers with random 'custom' quests and items, I prefere the full on balanced custom epic content, which I have yet to see progress further than HeroicWoW did.

I used to play on a server called ExigenceGaming when the max level was still 200, such a wonderful server, it was pretty small, yet so peaceful, also balanced, maybe 200/200 (Horde/Alliance) and almost everyone knew eachother, people helped eachother of the same faction, otherwise it was straight ganking but then suddenly, alot of the nice people got banned, new GMs arose, max level changed to 255, shit failed. This was back in TBC, 2 summers ago.

Personally I prefer a server with instant 80 - Some pvp gear and just have some fun bging and pvping.

I find custom items spoil the game and can become a bit confusing for where to start to obtain such items

I think instant 80 + blizzlike is the best way to go, since some people just want a change of class for some fun.

    TL;DR: OP is right.

Imo, DV-WoW is the best "funserver" I've ever played. It had lots of custom content, a nice feel of progression through the quests and instances/raids. And for once the high-end instances were actually hard in a blizz-like way, not in the usual way where it takes 25 minutes to kill the boss and it's labeled a "hard" boss. Unfortunately it was brought down in favor for its successor, Virus-WoW. That server was also a very good one, but it lacked the spirit and pure fun. I think it went down as well after a couple of months, and the creator (Kamyn I think his name was) disappeared.

I'd love to see him come back sometime, he was an awesome developer.

On topic lol: Yes, "funservers" are not what they used to be... I'd really like to see more servers with rich lore and content that has more of a real game feel. Game developing is a time-consuming process, you attract players for a very long time without putting time and effort into your project. That goes for all servers, not only funservers.

CeldonWow is the best server I ever played on.
A quick leveling road 1-80, and then lots of custom (balanced) scripted instances and items.
It wasn't up very long, so it didn't ever get many players.
Many events, pvp in guru, and everyone knew each other.
There were quests to 'fuse' weapons together to upgrade them etc.

I have been stalking the server listings since it shut down a couple of years ago and only found very few wich could compete, but they were shut down shortly after.
Thanks for the tips on these servers, I'll try them out.

Your right, AFG Warriorz was awesome, damn that's a long time ago :P
Anyway i think i'm going to put my server on highrate because i got events which award normal items but no custom gear
It's just to keep players busy.

    just my 2cents

Most of the servers in tops use the same REPACK, i mean i enter the world and i see one Pande or Kael which ports you to mall and such. Where the Mall are just some NPC that updates your weapon if you bring some shit to them. Fun servers are long gone. For me funserver was more levels, quest, custom boss with scripts, not just few npcs with crap quest.
