ArcEmu vs Mangos; Looking for pro's and cons of both

    So yeah lets hear it,

Im now stuck between the 2, Mangos has great compatability imo

But arcEmu allows easy scripting E.G LUA.

From looking through threads on MMOwned ect and see hundreds of LUA scripts for arcemu but hardly anything for Mangos.

So what are your opinions on Mangos vs ArcEmu?

    ArcEmu

    Pros:

    - Lua Engine
    - Easy to Set up/modify.
    - Friendly Commands.

    Cons:

    - Public Servers running ArcEmu tend to crash alot.
    - Many bugs compared to MaNGOS.
    - Some things don't work properly.

    MaNGOS

    Pros:

    - More bug fixes
    - More stable (in some cases)

    Cons:

    - No lua Engine
    - Harder to set up for beginners.

I like Mangos but I am definitely partial to Blizzlike. The lack of lua support is getting maddening now that I want to customize.

Mangos has loads hard-coded and if you trying modifying the core you will probably run into one of the million hack-code bombs waiting to go off. So if you want to customise, go ArcEmu. If you want blizzlike, then go Mangos.

I've done a lot of work on MaNGOS cores before, i've never had any problems with it, so I don't know what you're trying for by "hack-code bomb".

A lot of the fixes for various scenarios they have done are 'hack fixes' which are not real solutions but temporary solutions. Unfortunately they forgot about a lot of these or never bothered to properly sort them out, and I refer to them as bombs just waiting to go off.
Working on Mangos cores is fine, try modifying the core (not just changing 1-2 lines but properly adding/rewriting parts).

Actually we are trying to keep MaNGOS as general as possible. Can you maybe give an example (except for spell code maybe which needs some work) what exactly you mean?

Unfortunately I can't give any examples personally (I can't even code C++ apart from the basics) but I'll try and get in contact with the people who I used to work with which encountered these.

    ArcEmu

    Pros:
    Lua Engine
    Easy to set up
    Easier GM Commands
    More noob-friendly.

    Cons:
Practically never on the current patch. there like always behind haha.
    Crashes easy
    Bugs (like every Emu hah)

Thats all I can think of for ArcEmu

    Mangos:

    Pros:

    Always updated to current patch
    Stable

    Cons:
    No Lua engine
    Hard to customize
    weird GM commands.

Sorry, I don't know too much about mangos, only used it once. So I don't know too much about it.
