    Resources?

    Has anyone created resources for ingame concepts of such as..

    Wood.
    Stone.
    Iron, or
    Adaminate.

    You see a tree, and you can cut it down for resources to build an object..
    Has this been done before? Thought of? Worked on?
    It would be a great addition to any server. It's making me curious..

    I've actually developed that script before for a Repack project but deleted all the files afterward and haven't touched it since

    Yes, I know. 'S why I asked for scripts if he had it. I want it, for something and my own project to add depth to the game.

    Ive seen this before, on a server (that is now shut down), it reminds me of Runes of Magic or Aions gathering system.

    Yes, I had developed such a system for Epilogue (now down).

    There were four kinds of resources:
    - wood
    - iron
    - stone
    - food

    I had all kind of trees and nodes spawned around the world. With scripted items I allowed people to use that item (with an animation) to gather the wood, iron or stone. Food could be gathered by killing beasts.

    You could then use these resources to buy certain contracts (from a NPC with your own or guild resources) for buildings which in turn would be spawned by a GM upon delivery of the contract. This would go through roleplayed negotiations as the GM would roleplay a landlord. This landlord would ask for even more resources, tokens (Epilogue's currency) or gold depending on the land, mood or anything the landlord was currently thinking. Once spawned a building would be added by the GM to the guild on the site. There the guild could choose to buy certain upgrades for the buildings (such as converting a house into a farm), or hire workers to gather even more resources. Buildings were also important for happiness etc.

    Basically you could say we had a RTS in a MMORPG.

    No. We never used the script you sent because a) it wasn't complete enough b) it didn't compile c) we made some changes to the concept and took a different approach. The whole system that was live on Epilogue was mine.

    Would be too similar to Runescape, which imo blizz would lose players on....

    meh, I want to hack at trees randomly like an idiot to build a house.
    I don't see why it's a poor idea, I think it would add much more depth to custom private-servers and more fun for the players, not only that but give them the option for guild-citys so they have to earn it or something ..

    I'm currently working on this with a friend for my server, but not quite in the same method you've described here.
    I've also experienced the epilogue version of this, and it was quite good (props to Dynashock / Mager, whoever actually did it is not my business).
