Is this legit? I tested the core and its running 3.1x Ascent.

Its not the REAL Ascent, iirc Zed commited 3.1 changes(they were from aspire) like 2 weeks ago. So no its not legit

also that "ascent" is based on HS code.

ArcEmu, Ascent, Antrix, Aspire, Hearthstone, and so on. There all based of the same code at the end of the day and so are very similar to each other. They were just taken by different teams, changed the name, and made there own changes / fixes.

before its public debut, the antrix branch of wowd was known as espireemu if i recall burlex' old alias correctly

Probably because IT IS OPEN SOURCED. I think that gives them a pretty good reason to call themselves open sourced, don't you?

because...wowd was sorta the base, so it per definition does not "use that code" it was the origin of all the crap emus. All the c++ ones now are based on wowd.
