Hello as a general oversee I wanted to know the most general problems current servers have with there staff. I am compiling a quiz of 125 questions per type of app (dev, gm, admin) and wanted to try and come up with some good ones.

The most common problem is rogue Devs, attempting to steal your DB. ^^
Nobody, not even a huge business, requires you to answer 125 questions just to apply..
I doubt anyone will suffer for an volunteer job.
There might be like 15 questions randomly chosen out of 125, so people can't just cheat?
^
Pretty Neat idea... :P
Actualy iMurloc thats what I am doing lol its 13 questions they awnser picked randomly out of 125 not 125 they have to awnser.
Edit:Why does it seem ppl would rather pick parts out and point out why its bad rather hen just saying what the topic was about?

I think a problem would be having staff members that are young, and tend to toy around and take advantage of there powers...
However, on that issue, I'd have to say that the user shouldn't necessarily be judged based on age, but content of character. Are they qualified for the job? Are they able to do what you need them to do at par-level? Take the application and evaluate it for yourself regardless of what their age is.
I used to be on a server that had an amazingly active member, super helpful and even hung out with the GMs to assist them with answering questions from player tickets. This person applied to become a GM and was backed by almost every GM and quite a few very active players, and was declined because they were a year too young. That must've been heartbreaking for that player and after that people decided they didn't like the way the admins of the server were treating players and the server's population shot down.. ironically, almost every staff member thereafter was fired.
In case you were wondering, I'm referring to Eternion-Wow.

Its based mosttly on age.
Take vitwow as a great example.
13 year old kid thinks hes amazing as he c+p'ed an emu where as say idk gastric is like 9001 years old codes his own stuff and does not flame other projects (unless they deserve it).
Kids under the age os like 17 will abuse their powers as there kids and whats what you do.
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
I suppose, but I believe that the experience on the server (amount of time they have been playing on it) should also be a huge factor in deciding who should be staff members. Also, I don't think just because a person is 14, they should be rejected.
Yes, a lot of kids will abuse their powers, but I know there are responsible ones out there that won't, you just have to be careful when reviewing the application.
I think it's definitely important to have a trial process, like so:
Head GM
/ \
Senior GMs
/ | \
Regular GMs
/ | | \
Floating GMs
(when there are no GMs on duty).
/ | | | \
Trial GMs
Also, there should be incentives for the GMs so they'll want to be responsible. (ex. not being able to add gear to their chars other than the GM gear, and instead using time they GM as a point system for awarding them some of the best gear), continuously replenishing gear and recycling it like so:
GM works for enough time - gets better gear (on-par with Icecrown Citadel)
GM collects all or most of that gear
That gear is now recycled by being placed in quests or vendors for players to get with hard work
New gear set is released for GMs to work towards
etc. etc.

Kind of. It's more about how responsible you are at a given age. Obviously a 6-year-old can't be expected to perform well as a GM of a private server, for they aren't even mature enough to "moderate" their own lives just yet. However, at 13+, children should reach maturity and understanding of their responsibility -- some sooner than others.
I also believe if you have a 13-15 year old applicant, that you should ask for a scan of their semester report cards for that year and the prior year if possible. It lets you see how they perform in school and gives you an idea of how they'd perform on the job.
Key word here: should. However, at 13+, children should reach maturity and understanding of their responsibility -- some sooner than others
All GM's that i have seen on all servers that are under the age of 17 abuse their powers or get demoted within a week.
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
Not that i have saw...

In my opinion you go with people you already know. Of course depending on how many people you know it may not be the best to go with 5 gm's for 1000 members, but chances are when you have a new server you shouldnt even be thinking about having 1000 members for a while, so 2 gms that are friends could server you quite well, and you already know their character.
im on :stage1:
