[Question] Mangos, realmd, patch spoofing, possible? menu

    [Question] Mangos, realmd, patch spoofing, possible?

    Alright my first post, figure I might as well get right into it...

    So as you may or may not know MaNGOS's realmd server has the ability to send patches to WoW clients that authenticate with the wrong build number. I've been trying to figure out exactly what kind of file the client is expecting to get in order to start the patching process. So far what I know is that the official patches come down in a standard .mpq package, but when i try to send my patches in .mpq packages the client rejects them... Guessing theres some sort of signature blizzard puts on it, anyone know more about the process or has a link to some documentation?

    Mangos is open source, just look through the code, the info you need is probably in there.

    You will need to create a patches/ subfolder in your MaNGOS directory and put the MPQ patch files from the updates in there.

    Anyway, the Launcher.exe will not access that area since they made it so that it directly accesses their patches before it even connects to the game server. So tell your players to use WoW.exe instead.

    not if you change the second line in the realmlist to the ip or dns of the server
    example

     set patchlist 62.48.58.250
    this is a made up ip

    The problem isn't getting the patch to the client, I've already got that working, the problem is putting patch in the right format so the client doesn't just throw an error and delete it without executing the patch. I'm pretty sure its more complicated then just a standard .mpq as when I mimiced the official file structure and repackaged it the client rejected again... I'm pretty sure i've seen at least one private server distribute its own patches, but that was awhile ago, blizzard might have added some extra complexity with BC or something. So far the best documentation i've found is the emupedia wiki, its got tons of information on the net protocol which is great, but the workings of the client are pretty undocumented as far as i can tell
