Well - if you're running a different system (win64, linux, mac) you'll need to compile everything on the server.
Also, you'll have to find a way to send your maps folder there. That monster folder is a several gigs large and will require time to upload in regular upload speeds.
Other then that - Remote desktop and you'll be fineJust make sure you have a pass

Not several gigs large o.o
on a dedicated if you run ascent the main process will be ascent, on you computer you have many programs installed which affect the system cpu usage
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
It all comes down to your bandwidth![]()
Well I wouldn't recommend taking a VPN / Dedi that you have no control of..
Running on a dedicated pc reduces the lag considerably for other players. Your own games & applications will run faster too.
Like Ultra Spidey already said: Take in mind that the real limit/player cap is your bandwith, a WoWserver needs 1 to 1.5 Kbit/s up/download per player.
Example: On my 1Mbit up/8Mbit download dsl line the cap is around 80 players, more will lag like hell.
So if the dedicated server you are referring to has a load of bandwith, you'll be able to have a lot more players online without lag.
I didn't notice any difference between running a WoWserver on Windows XP or Windows Server 200x though.
Just make sure you are allowed to host a server on it, my friend got fired because he was hosting on his company's server without permission.
Make sure you have full access (administrator rights) to the server pc too, in case it gets into any kind of troubles. I'd suggest Remote Desktop above VPN, RD works smoother for me.
Sending the files over to the server will be easier if you use Winrar to archive the server files, this reduces the file size by about 65%.
As for the hardware: Make sure the pc/server has at least 2 GB of RAM, but any cpu above 2 Ghz will do. Dual cpu/core is nice, but not necessary.
thanks for the help, can anyone help me with remote desktop on a vista? been searching about tutorials but no luck
