Hello everyone;]
I used to develope a bot for World of Warcraft , its name was RwBot.. it lasted for a couple of years... 4..5 of constant changes etc:P
Everything was fine... but life has various unexpected turns doesn't it.
anyways... Byt the end of its lifetime I got some threatening letters from Blizzard lawayersthey found a representative in Warsaw (the capital city of Poland), some Big name lawyer-company which used to represent Microsoft and other big names. anyway I told them to move along and leave me alone as I was 100% sure that my sooftware was completely out-of-process and there has always been a notice on my website stating they it is agains their EULA blablbala....
they made quite an investigation back then... contacting my EX-GF, and other friends who used to resell this peace of software.
Then they contatced Allegro... the Biggest auction site in Poland.. I had like 70% revenue from this bot from that particular site. Allegro seeing such a big player filled their pants and changed their rules to disallow any automation software, nice.
anyway I shut the project down. It never gained real traction outiside of Poland. I never had time to promote this stuff but it was quite good.
I remember I implemented profile support of other bots.. it was safe to leave it alone for long periods of time...
I'm thinking about going back to this project........ maybe I'll release it for free.... run it for free for a year or so..then intoruduce some payment schemes.
has anything siginificant happened to WoW internals during the last 2-3 years?:P
Is it still worth for people to use automation software?
I got a little sentimental;] I've got other projects to work on...since then I've dived deep into cryptography, security etc. but who knows.....
maybe there is someone who would like to join the project;] it is well written, in the 3.0 the code has been completely rewritten for the purpose of supporting other games in the future;dddd it was an amitious project;d, the code was cleaned up as far as I remember there is an API support, it was designed to be fully out-of-process from the ground up. I still remember playing around with reverse engeneering the D3D world-to-screen algorithms... jeez seems like light-years ago.
I see that this sub-forum is sort of dead compared to times of its glory:P
I'm still making up my mind, if I decide to quit the project entirely then maybe I'll just release the source code to public domain
P.S Had I the sort of money for fight Blizz, I would fight them in court for lowering my profits. I mean I never get it. how one company (Blizz) can force another one (Allegro) to prevent seeling their product (Mine) without any sort of court-order etc. using their Big name. I mean If using software such as RwBot is against user licens terms it's the choice of users right... I'm staying out of process so WTF...
