    Beginner needs help (finding correct address?)

    Hello ownedcore!

    I just started with memory editing here and i wonder how to find the correct addresses.

    For example.

    Say i wanna grab my characters name,

    Code:
    string myname = wow.ReadASCIIString((uint)baseAddress + 0x???????, 255);
    How do i know what address to find this in ?

    Hey, that's not really the easiest thing to find correctly (via reversing some functions). It's better to use cheat engine here (or anything you want) to find all addresses of strings with encoded name (it's UTF, not ASCII as you've posted). Then restart your wow and see if any of those strings at the same relative address, if none then you should search for pointers to the strings (or even pointers to pointers..). Once any of your pointers survive after wow restart you are done.
    In this particular case char name can be found at static offset from base wow address. So you should find it in the first step.
    If you want to do things fine, then reverse CGUnit_C::GetUnitName. As you will see name is taken from DBCache<NameCache...>::GetRecord.
