Remove view distance fog?

Is there a way to remove fog from the game? I am aware it is there to cap max view distance, but I would like to remove it to set the fog distance to an extremely far away distaance.
I think /console farclip 10000 only renders view distance to 1600 OR the fog is just blocking the max view distance.

I remember a program from several years ago that removed fog from the game, so you could see as far as the horizon, but am unable to remember the name.
