I just logged in today to say thanks. Actually its really hard to gather up and find good content which you can learn from but this thread makes everything so much easier. Also its nice to get hints from people who already went through the basics and can tell you what makes sense to learn and what you should skip etc.
If I will ever get some +rep power it will be reserved for you

damn, your university if so much cooler than mine. Was this a project for a masters course? Seems like a lot of work for just a normal university course. I'm graduating in 4 months from the University of Waterloo for Computer Engineering.

It was my final year project - basically a very big project that you have to pass in order to graduate, but not for masters unfortunately haha. I am currently working on my masters, which is turning out to be a much bigger and harder project. I have to design and build an on-board computer (OBC) for a cubesat that is radiation tolerant. Unfortunately my experience from this project won't be much help haha.
