Reading addon memory ? (Noob question) menu

    Reading addon memory ? (Noob question)

    So there i was, lazy noob thinking about getting data from wow (pixel hunting is getting me nuts) and the thought occurred to me that it could actually be easier to learn lua, create an addon that gathers information, and than read data from a nice simple array or something like that...
    Is it possible ?/Not too silly ? It doesn't work that way, does it ?

    Why not run the lua code using injection? Then you don't have to worry about that crap.

    I remember what I used to do a really long time ago (before I moved to just using Lua code) was have an add on set an unused CVar (violenceLevel, I believe it was)... I believe there is a CVarStore that you can probably more easily read from than trying to find a Lua variable that is going to be at a dynamic spot each time. Try reversing GetCVar and SetCVar.

    Or you could just go with an endscene hook.

    Wow, thanks guys, really useful posts, wish i could rep. I've also found this Blizzhackers • View topic - Communications between LUA and external programs right on the topic. More than enough theoretical material for anyone to get started.
