I was actually recording using h.264 + AAC (TS) capturing at 45fps. I didn't playback locally whilst recording, I just streamed it to a file and then played it back afterwards to check for performance issues/quality. Using the VLC option to stream to via HTTP might be a good option. VLC creates its own webserver and any clients just use the IP address of the serving machine with the port specified during the stream setup.
You'll probably need to tune the sending and receiving buffers however to reduce delay.
I used VLC as a streaming server before in conjunction with my DVB-T antenna to stream a TV signal over the net. VLC was too laggy on my PC recording and encoding full screen images at acceptable frame rates. I will check again, when I get home. Nevertheless, there are more situations than just streaming I've on my mind when it comes to how can I use this stuff.
No troubs, I just wanted to point out VLC just in case you hadn't thought to use it as a server.
It might be cool to some day feed a information regarding models to a client and their locations and have a 3D application render those models.
(I'm imagining something like spectator mode in counter strike)
I keep hoping that blizz will implement such a spectator view function in the live client for viewing live raids or arena fights.
Nothing big and very simple but I am proud of it anyways
