Maybe Blizzard should focus it's finances on making a game that doesn't require botting to be fun.

I'm personally disappointed in blizzard, although I didn't like WoW itself very much I found their customer relations and marketing practices to be above PAR from most other online game companies.

Unfortunately it seems like Blizz has decided to FK their competitive advantage and turn into SoE.

So pretty much If you have glider, and Blizzard wins, you won't be able to run it anymore. Or buy it.

    right?

I've never really understood why blizzard is trying to get rid of bots, maybe if they'd spend more time on finding a better way to detect glider or recruit more employees to i don't know maybe watch players play this game then they would make way more money, think of all the accounts banned players transferring upgrading to wotlk and bc and the monthly fees.
yes I've always pictured blizzard really greedy

    1. They ruin the economy
    2. They impact adversely on legitimate players
    3. They create a bad image for the game which hurts sales
    4. They are one of the things that make RMT so profitable
    etc etc.

There are plenty of good reasons, you're probably just blinded by your own greed. Blizzard is not in the wrong here because they want to shut down bots, its the legislation they're trying to use to do so that is questionable.

...Or Blizzard completely detects everyone who bots and has done so within a year, bans them, and then expects a large portion of those who were banned to go out and buy the game over again, roll new characters, meanwhile bitch and moan about not being able to get a refund from their Glider purchase.

    Eh, who knows.

What this means for Glider customers
The judge asked us to file a memo by February 13th on why we should be allowed to continue to sell Glider through the appeal process.

I'm not sure why he asked for that, since I don't think he's going to start listening to us now. So we'll file it and see, but it seems very likely that he will rule against us. Then we'll go up to the 9th circuit and try to get a stay, similar to how the Napster case went.

If all goes badly, Glider could be shut down as early as mid-February. So keep your fingers crossed.
Things don't look good for Gliders.

it would seem, from common sense (something that's lacking in much of the legal world), that Blizzard should be able to keep things like Glider out. They own the game, and if they want zero bots running around killing mobs or hopping around in BGs there should be a legal way of doing that, other than banning the users, and *especially* when the bot is a cash cow for its devs. And that's just glider which is a simplistic barely-functioning piece of crap, how about openbot that could do almost anything including assisting in arenas - no different than running an aim hack in a FPS.

Somehow this has ended up as a DMCA copyright infringement issue (vs users) and seems to set one heck of a precedent, from its "you COPY when you load from HD to memory, etc". The judge seems clueless enough for it all to be overturned on appeal, hopefully.

It's hard to choose sides here Glider is a money-grubbing POS of a product, Blizzard's claim that after 100s day played NOTHING belongs to the player is iffy at best. Probably the most important part of it all is not letting it set a precedent, or the whole "pay us $5000 per mp3 shared grandma or we sue and evict you" thing will spread like wildfire.
