After using glider for some time now, I have gathered all the knowledge necessary to properly install Glider and PPather, and successfully glide a multitude of classes from 1 -70. Hopefully this guide can help some early gliders configure Glider appropriately and get their money’s worth from this great program. Obviously, I take no credit for Glider or PPather; thank Merc and Pontus for those.
1. What is Glider?
Glider is one of the most popular WoW bots around. It uses a waypoint movement system, using profiles (XML files) with coordinates that Glider uses to run your character around the points, killing nearby mobs. Glider can perform simple tasks besides combat such as vendoring, gathering, auto-reply, and limited PvP. Glider is virtually indetecable by Blizzard, and uses Tripwire to avoid ban-waves. Glider has an initial fee of $25, plus a $5 subscription for the optional, yet highly recommended Glider Elite.
2. What is PPather?
PPather is essentially just an addon for Glider, replacing the tradition waypoint system with its own movement system. PPather searches WoW’s .MPQ files to detect possible obstacles in front of the character. Hotspots are the coordinates for areas the character will grind around. PPather uses task files instead of profiles, which can be programmed to vendor, quest, mount, and even get on boats and zeppelins. PPather itself is free, but it requires Glider Elite.
3. Where do I get Glider?
Glider can be downloaded here, along with the required .net Framework 2.0. However, PPather requires .net Framework 3.5, which can be downloaded here. Some addons I use to help with gliding are Glide Watcher, GM Basics, Lootfilter, and AnkhBG.
4. Where do I get PPather?
The program to install and update can be found here. You will also need a custom class specifically designed for PPather. Here are some custom classes:
Druid: Naa Druid
Hunter: KingHunter (PvE) - Mohawk - OOberHunter
Mage: Evil Mage - Implosion (PvP)
Paladin: Athene - BasicPaladin
Priest: PPriest
Rogue: PathPogue
Shaman: PShaman
Warlock: ZLock - OOberWarlock
Warrior: Parrior - Centurion
*NOTE- You’re going to want to create a folder for all this stuff, just name it whatever and inside it create a subfolder called “Glider” or something. Keep this subfolder blank until later. Put all the PPather stuff in the main folder for now. Some say that Blizzard has ways to search your HD for conspicuous folder names and such so if you’re weary just name it something along the lines of “Microsoft Office” or something.
6. How to install Glider
Fortunately for us, the folks at Glider (/cheer Merc and Hamut!) have made things very easy for us. Simply put the GliderDeploy file into your Glider subfolder, and run it. The installation is pretty straight forward, just give your executable a name and let the program extract everything. Again, if you wish just name your executable something like “Notepad.” Once Glider is installed, you will want to register it. Get a key here and enter it in the general tab of Glider’s configuration menu (the picture of the gear.)
7. How to install PPather
PPather is also quite simple to install. Run the PPather Patcher file and click in the white navigation box below “Glider Directory.” Find your “Glider” subfolder and select it. Click install. Again, let the program extract the files. This program is quite a useful tool created by Eleky that also updates PPather.
8. Installing and compiling your custom class
You should have a ZIP file of your desired custom class from Step 4. Extract this ZIP into the “Classes” folder in your “Glider” subfolder. Then, Cut+Paste the keys.xml file into your “Glider” subfolder. Run your Glider executable and go into the Classes tab in the configuration menu. Check the box next to your custom class and click “Test Compile.” Now, go back into the General tab and select your custom class from the Class dropdown bar.
**NOTE- Once PPather is installed, opening Glider should also open up a separate PPather window. If this doesn’t appear you should check it is installed correctly or simply reboot Glider. Be sure to minimize down to your desktop and look for it in your tray if it still doesn’t show up. For any questions on PPather there are two excellent guides, found here and here.
9. Configuring your custom class
This is one of the most important steps in a successful glide. Going into great detail about each classes’ tweaking would be much better explained by the dedicated programmers of the program’s themselves. Just read through the thread of your class (links in Step 4.) Some custom classes are compatible with Glider’s new key system, some are not. Again, read the original thread of your class for more detail.
10. Locating and loading task files
As explained above, PPather runs by using task files. The root forum for task files is here. This forum is pretty easy to navigate; I would suggest spending a bit of time looking around for a good task file. Read through posts, and take your time until you find the best one. Some tasks are uploaded as just the tasks.psc file. These are easiest to load, simply download it and find it from the “Load” button in PPather. Most tasks are uploaded as text. To load these, simply edit a tasks.psq file using Notepad or something, and replace all the text that may be there with the text of your desired task. Then, just load it normally. Keep in mind that task files must be loaded in the format “tasks.psq.”
11. Addons
Battleground gliding addons, such as AnkhBG, are not my specialty. I would recommend consulting the original thread for help there. The same goes for GM Basics, although honestly, it’s called “Basic” for a reason; it’s fairly straight-forward. Lootfilter is an essential in-game addon for avid gliders. The name says it all, it “filters” out your loot by deleting things as you loot them based on your criteria. For example, you could choose to destroy all greys you loot, but keep all the leather and herbs. Many gliders also use Bottomless Bag instead of Lootfilter. I personally use Lootfilter, but it’s up to you.
***NOTE- These are by no means the only addons useful for gliding. Like everything in this guide, my lists aren’t complete, and I leave much up to your own exploration. A good thread for other tools is here. Yes, it’s somewhat outdated, but still have a look.
****NOTE- For Vista users- always run glider with administrative privileges. Glider is known to have some issues with UAC.
12. General tips
·Exercise common sense. Do not glide 24/7 in a quest zone, do not constantly glide primal, etc. If you’re careful and find a good balance, you are 99% protected from the ban-stick.
·Use the forums. The Glider forums are filled with hundreds of helpful and active members. Take appropriate measures in asking questions and you will most likely learn something.
·Don’t be an ******* and report other botters just to take their spot. Just don’t.
·Be affiliated with a guild. Level 40+ players without a guild look suspicious.
·Don’t just bot. Play on weekends, or whenever you can, both to get a bit of gear and to actually learn your class. WoW does not need more lvl 70 idiots.
·Try to avoid botting up characters on an extremely high population realm.
·If possible, make your own task files. Read this for help.
·When you do decide to post in the forums, make an adequate search first. With so many Glider users, chances are you aren’t the first to experience the problem.
·Don’t get cocky. After quickly getting characters leveled and geared, do not get carried away and try to get away with excessive time.
·Try not to bot on an account you would be devastated to lose. No security is perfect, and bans are always remotely possible. For example, don’t fish-bot on your T6 rogue.
·If possible, use a different credit card for Glider than you did for WoW. Don’t want Glider to fall through and every WoW account linked with it to take a hit. Don’t worry though, Glider will prevail!
·Once you’re around lvl 58-59, head over to Hellfire and do a bit of questing by hand. The mobs get significantly tougher to bot, and the quest greens will really help.
Please note that this guide is basically just a compilation of other guides, plus some of my own insight. My hope is to condense it into an easier and more practical format. As I’m sure I’ve left out some important things, please let me know in the most non-aggressive fashion possible.
Good luck and happy gliding!
EDIT: Just found this BG task file pack, its really nice, check it out Glider Forums
