Knights of the Frozen Throne

Yesterday the new Hearthstone expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, was revealed. A theme so cold that it is taking us back to the Wrath of the Lich King days. From the information we have it seems like they are not adding a new Death Knight class like many might have anticipated but rather EVERY hero can be a Death Knight. New cards have also been revealed with brand new mechanics attached to them. Release date is set for August.

This expansion will be including 135 brand new cards. In this bundle of cards also comes nine new legendary Hero Cards that transform the champion into a Death Knight. With this change comes a ton of new abilities and playstyles. As your armor turns to frost you obtain a new altered powers. One example Blizzard showed us in they're reveal was Deathstalker Rexxar. "When Played, Deathstalker Rexxar fires a flurry of arrows -- dealing 2 damage to all enemy minions -- and replaces your hero granting 5 armor and changing your Hero Power to Build-a-Beast."

Now this is where it gets interesting. "Build-a-Beast allows Deathstalker Rexxar to stitch together a horrifying new Zombeast by 'Discovering' pieces of two former animal friends. The new creation combines all the stats of both creatures he's sewn together; mana cost, attack, health, and card text. The beastly abomination is then added to Deathstalker Rexxar's hand to later be unleashed on a hapless foe." So essentially you resurrect two formerly played beast cards and combine their stats which creates a brand new abomination of the hybrid. What I find cool is that after they are sewn together they will have brand new card text. So a Tundra Rhino and Savannah Highmane will literally say "Your beasts have charge" AND "Deathrattle: Summon two 2/2 Hyenas" That is a deadly combination. Hopefully the art is sweet as well!

Lifesteal has also been added to the mix. This ability does exactly what you think and heals you for the damage dealt by that card. Nothing too crazy but it should be interesting to see how big of an impact a ton of Lifesteal cards will be to the meta.

Another addition being added is a Icecrown Citadel themed mission. In fact there will be eight missions that are all single-player AND free! In these missions you will be battling against Icecrown Citadel's strongest and eventually earn yourself a duel with the Lich King himself. After completing all the Missions you obtain three Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs. "Completing the Prologue mission will also add a random Legendary Death Knight Hero card to your collection!" - Blizzard. Hopefully we all get the class we want!
