I have the alpha client downloaded and working great with map switcher...just wanted to know if there was a way to access the data files to see the models/skins etc. If not then perhaps someone can answer the question as to how sites like heroesnexus.com can preview skins that have not yet been seen before?

You can extract data files using my tool linked in first post of [Tool] Heroes of the Storm Alpha Map Switcher thread. It doesn't provide meaningful filenames though.

Partially working methods to access the files exist. There are no public extractors for this format that support filenames though. You will have to name the files yourself. It's an adventure!

Curse has their own working extractor but they're not obligated to share it.

Try torrent, or the BiLLiONUPLOADS mirror... That mirror was chugging at about 900kb/s last I tried it, only takes an hour.

Thanks for the program. Does it open in the same way as map switcher? With map switcher I just run it in Visual Studio and it works but with your extractor tool I do the same and i just get:

'BLTEExtractor.vshost.exe' (CLR v4.0.30319: BLTEExtractor.vshost.exe): Loaded 'G:\BLTEExtractor\BLTEExtractor\bin\Release\BLTEExtractor.exe'. Symbols loaded.
The thread 0x2548 has exited with code 259 (0x103).
The thread 0x253c has exited with code 259 (0x103).
The program '[2628] BLTEExtractor.vshost.exe' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

Any ideas?

You need to provide it with parameters, BLTEExtractor.exe <input data file> <output folder> true

It's command line tool that requires parameters. There's even sample extract.cmd file in Debug folder that shows how to run it.
