Niantic recorded the location of Pokemon encounter, not capture.

I had a quick look at the active threads and was surprised to not see much discussion on this subject. Maybe I missed it...

But the classic sniping strategy is teleport to a Pokemon you want, engage and teleport back to complete the capture and trick the game into thinking you found the Pokemon at your "normal" location, which may or may not be your real location depending on if you were GPS spoofing whilst sniping.

Well when the new update launched 2 days ago, I was quite surprised that all the Pokemon I sniped months ago (I've not botted or sniped since the first permabans hit) recorded their encounter locations as wherever they spawned originally, not where I captured them. For example I've got Snorlax from France and Dragonite from Indonesia, and I've never been there except on quick sniping hops. (I GPS spoofed and botted consistently near home or Sanfrancisco).

Given Niantic had this information all along, I am amazed that I haven't been banned yet. If they only matched up the location of where a Pokemon was encountered and where it was captured, it should automatically detect all snipers.

And although I don't need to show anybody the details of my Pokemon, it's gonna be quite hard to pretend I've traveled around most of the United States, Hong Kong, Indonesia etc in the last few months if anyone does dig into it. :P

Niantic recorded the location of Pokemon encounter, not capture.

Niantic will only know if you been reported and they can easily see where pokemon been captured. Not that Niantic will go through one by one of millions accounts.
IF u really hade fine through other threads than no need to open new thread about same thing and just write it on already opened thread about this.

they wudnt go through 1 by 1 be it PTC or Google accounts, its simply hectic and time consuming,

i believe for now, they are more worried abt BOTTERS, than snipers, since we DONT really break the game and we actually PLAYED it just we had better mons.

cheating still but, NOT AS BAD if u ask me.

also, i believe, if they were to start another banwave, with this update and we didnt survive, i am not surprised at all. like you said, since they had this info all along.

initially i thought the same, thinking its the capture location, not spawn location. SO its pretty tricky now ...

yet the current update with the fix on starters IV, my hand got all itchy again!

I'm just gonna sum up a reply pretty simply. All pokemon Go data is stored in servers, servers have databases, databases usually can be analized / extracted. With that premise, it could take 30 minutes for any decent business analytics guy to flag all players with pokemon catched at a different location than it spawned.

Where I work, we do this kind of projects with databases 10x as huge as Pokemon Go, and for more serious stuff as banking (mainly, also other sectors). If they wanted, they could wipe out all snipers out of the game in the blink of an eye.

Botters colpase the servers, but botters aren't the focus of bans (nearly 2 months without a ban wave). Their only concern was server load, and for that, they banned, blocked and fought tools such as Pokevision. Those tools acted like Ddos attacks against their servers, with milions of push/pull requests from them, unlike bots, snipers or gamers.

After wiping massive data-tracking tools (the ones working now have a lousy, slowly tracking unlike pokevision had, for example), they stopped caring. They only ban reported people to keep the active player amount high (even if those are botters), but if it hurts gameplay and you get reported, they can ban you. They possibly have us all flagged anyway.

About Snipers not hurting the game, that's pure bs... I had a lvl 28 account, leveled legitly, my best pokemon was a damn Gyarados lvl 2000 and a few vaporeons around that level... A friend had done the same, and started sniping at lvl 28. In 1 day, he still was 28 but with a full army of lvl 2.500 perfect moves dragonites, gyarados, varpoeon, snorlax... and candy to level them. That guy alone hurt the others gameplay a hundred times more than any random guy who used a bot to reach lvl 28 without sniping

Yup, I spent a couple weeks on discord only sniping perfect dratinis/dragonair/dragonites. I have over 60+ perfect dragonites, 10 of which fully powered up for my level and has perfect move sets.
