Same thing happened to me. Edited the config to include sniping, and it was rewritten with one that had all settings as "null"

Sorry bro....it happened because the bot got updated to 0.9.1...so when it gets updated...the config changes
So not my fault.....don't worry I am posting the bot which has autoupdate disabled

Now for not getting perma-banned I have a solution. I tested my method on several accounts and I got my result. Here it is. Well using a bot to level up accounts where you have already chosen a nickname and played a little on your phone WILL get you perma-banned, believe me, I am sure.

So the Solution I found is creating a new Pokemon Trainer Club account. But do not login with it on your iOS or Android phone. Instead run my edited Necrobot to level up safely.
You will not get perma-banned and still be able to level up. I advise leveling up to your desired level and then only start playing the game using the account you levelled up
Then choose your nickname and team,etc. Imagine having a Level 40 account using my method. Believe me its possible!

Mate, this doesn't make any sense. On the contrary if you bot without choosing your nickname the chances of Niantic flagging you is much higher as the game forces you to choose your nickname after your first pokemon. Only by playing with bot you can avoid choosing nickname.
I think your results was just coincidence.
Lasty never say that you'll not get banned with this or any method. None of us know how Niantic flags players yet.
